Rejected Revert the Rule Allowing the Use of Slurs

Well there are people who use nigga more like a bro or bruh.

Like, "Thats fucked up nigga" instead of "Thats fucked up bro"

I do this myself and I know Kitty does it too.

So this rule change will only really affect us and others who do this too. But since so much more people use it just because they can and want some attention, it could be better overall for the server if its done like this.

 

You might be a white male but you actually have some common sense and a modicum of empathy compared to some of the people who spam slurs on a regular basis.

This rule change wouldn't affect either of you anyhow. "Nigga" has always been allowed. It's not the same as the word "n*gger".

 

I honestly don’t know why this was even changed in the first place at the time when certain people started throwing out slurs in most of their sentences and just acted outright toxic repeatedly to no end. I think this should be reverted back in my opinion, just causes more drama.

I want to make something very clear: I was not involved in this rule change, but I have been listening. I know that a great portion of the community is upset with the way in which we deal with these slurs. I would like to propose that instead of just automatically shutting down the words when they are spoken in context (like this thread) we offer a more lenient approach, but that we are rather strict on the word otherwise. For instance:

-You can't call other players these slurs
-You can't use slurs to refer to a group of people

Essentially it would be "You must have good reason to be using those words, and if you do not than the staff have the full right to warn you to stop". Please let me know what you think and i'll be speaking with Highwon about this soon.

What would a possible scenario look like where someone would have good reason to use these slurs? 99.9% of the time it's just epic capital G Gamers that throw around the n-word because it's edgy and cool. It's also almost always directed at someone. If it's not directed at someone, I consistently hear it used like, "I hate black people and all minorities should be exterminated, hehe I'm 15 and this is funny to say right?" I just don't see any real reason to have allowed the usage of these slurs in the first place.

 

Unless in extremely specific circumstances, these words shouldn't be used at all. The only time this could be used is if you're talking about the usage of the word.
Even then, I don't see the point. Just replace the word with something like "n-word" or "slur". Each word usage can be reviewed on a case-by-case basis, but it shouldn't be lenient at all.

 

Literally the only good reason if that and you can even censor yourself because every fucking person period knows what you mean when you say the n-word is in a historical context. Can you come up with anything more reasonable than that example and an even more reasonable reason to have a reason to not just censor it with the n-word? If you give kids knives and leave them alone you'll come back to exactly what you'd expect. Leave the internet with the n-word and "WOW! THEY'RE SO GOOD AT ACTING LIKE BLESSED CHILDREN OH MY GOODNESS MY TRUST WASNT MISPLACED" ~ Said no one ever.

Also tell highwon to fuck off if he's gonna veto any changes.

 

You guys are relentless. How am I suppose to give you exact examples when I am not so sure what kind of discussions we would be having on the forums and in game? Personally, I don't care if the words are uncensored in the context of reports or in threads like this. Discussing the word itself, which happens a bit more than we like to realize, is a good time to use such words.

If you really want a strict "NO SLURS" rule than I hate to break it to you but that isn't going to happen. I'm trying to compromise, but if you don't want that than I guess you are on your own because there is no way I can convince the man at the top to go for it, especially after the rule was removed in the first place.

 

I think most people can agree that with context, such as in reports or discussion on the slur itself, it's fine.
What most people don't agree with is the fact anyone can say it whenever they want, in whatever setting.
I'm not sure why this is confusing. This should all be extremely straight-forward and obvious.

 

Fair example perfectly fine something to work with.

Can still be replaced with the n-word. It's no more difficult to type literally 6 characters in either version. It even removes a lot of the disdain from the word and culls the idiots who use the word directly at others rather than those who discuss the n-word within this example in a more... 'useful'... context.

 

I am not confused. What I am trying to say is that Highwon's belief on the subject, from what I can gather, is that he does not like it being an instant warning for simply saying the word. That gets way from what he originally intended for it, where it would only be considered harassment and that we would all just socially judge those who decide to use the words a lot. Make no mistake, I see where he is coming from and respect that logic, but judging by what I have seen in game as well as here on the forums that is highly unrealistic. What I am suggesting, and what has a chance of actually becoming apart of the rules, is the idea that we allow moderators and admins to consider the context and warn/kick/ban if it is clear that the person has no good reason for saying it, and is likely just trying to offend people or target people.

That should be pretty straight forward. Agree with it or not, that is just how it is.

 

Well, it should be in most cases, and if Highwon doesn't understand why then he's lost touch with about 90% of his playerbase.
