Rejected Make Hacking a Permabannable Offense

I think first offense should be a ban for 2 weeks, the second one for 2 months, and then the third one perma.

Yeah, the "first offense fairly short, second offense permanent" thing seems to be a nice compromise. There are indeed people who do idiotic things like hacking once just to try it out or whatever, and they deserve to get banned, but they might not be completely bad and could still learn from their mistakes. Second mistake --> no mercy.

I'm also not against making it permanent from the first offense. The best argument for this has already been stated by Python: It's a conscious effort. You can't just spontaneously fuck up and hack. I personally have never hacked and I don't even know how I would do it. You'd need to google and install shit to do it. Even Mass RDM can happen accidentally or in a fit of anger or whatever, but hacking is more of a "coldblooded" crime.

For being called SERIOUS Garry's Mod, this server has really been lightening up on its rules.

 

Isn't a permaban just for the servers? They can then appeal on the forums if they truly care enough (which shouldn't be many at all).

 

@wink since you're the only one to rate disagree thus far, I'd like to hear your take on this. Do you think the current banning system for cheaters is the best it could be?

 

It's super easy to evade it, and piles on a ton of extra work for the lead administration. The current system is effective enough from what I've seen.

 

It's funny how this comes up every few months but the higher ups literally just don't give a shit about what's good for the community and just ignore it.

Staff have ways to easily detect alts, so it's not like it'd be super hard to find out if someone accused of hacking has an alt account banned for hacking. Staff are just lazy as fuck and would rather let players suffer when a hacker gets banned on a modded server and then just swaps to vanilla later and hacks.

It's funny because the way I see it, they're just creating more work for themselves every time a hacker comes back after their ban expires and hacks again.

wouldn't it be less work cause you can just ban them for ban evading instead of having to record and gather new evidence of said player hacking

edit: my opinion is make it perm first offense, if they care about getting unbanned (90% dont) they can write an appeal on the forums and show why theyve changed or whatever

 

tbh id prefer 1st offense global 4 weeks 2nd perma

 

I got banned for hacking in 2014, jumping to random servers. Then rediscovered it like 5 months later, and now have played on the server for 5 years and been mod before. If I got perma'd I never would have played again most likely.

I agree, I have been hacking for 2+ years and I don't feel any danger
