You're special. You have a select group of traits. Whether you're funny, smart, social, or a lemur, you're you. These traits are what make you, you. These are also the things that people look for in friends.

Moral of the story: You are you. No one can change that, and if others don't like it then they are at fault. If you're yourself, friends will come like moths to a flame. Never worry about being judged, for those who truly care about you will stand up for you.

Nah but seriously, if you wanna make people like you on the internet, be funny. Don't be racially funny because if you catch the wrong crowd you'll get curb stomped.

 

Don't be yourself. That doesn't always work. Trust me, I'm myself, and I have people that dislike me. However, I couldn't care less of people dislike me, because I would rather be happy being me than worry about who wants to be my friend or not. If you want people to like you, you can't be yourself around everyone.

This goes against everything I believe in and is not right. Constraining yourself to an "alter-ego" or different personality that isn't yours is something you will regret and will hurt you in the future. In this alter-ego you make other people believe you are someone you are not, for many this might just be a change of gender, but worsens and becomes lying about what you look like, how you sound, what you do for a living just to please people who will always judge you. Even if you manage to change the slightest detail of yourself, what do you gain? Attention? Respect? Based on lies? How is that a good thing? The guilt you always feel will overwhelm you. It is never good to go down this path. There's also the matter of being caught in your lies. Have a fake profile picture and made people believe it's you? Someone can easily backtrack-search this image and find it, proving you to be a liar. What happens then? Everything you created falls apart and the big lie it really is opens up for everyone to see and judge.

The guy asked how to get people to like him. Not how to be happy with himself. In today's world, if you want to make everyone happy, you have to lie out your ass about who you are. Like I said, I'm myself, but I would rather be myself and be hated for it than some hypocrite that says something to make friends. Human interaction is good, but we all end up in the same state at the end of life. It's your choice whether or not to be honest with yourself and have a few people that know you closely or be fake about yourself and have plenty of fake people that barely know you. Your level of honesty with yourself will determine who surrounds you. Be honest and have honest friends or be fake and have fake friends. The choice is yours.

 

You should worry less about whether others like you, and more about enjoying yourself. Temporary satisfaction may be achieved from changing things to make others like you, but that satisfaction will fade. There's no secret rule or hidden trick that'll suddenly make people like you. If not now, you'll learn later on that a few fantastic friends who like the real you is much healthier than a large group of "friends" who hang out with you because of a fake personality. Attempting to get everyone to like you is not only unrealistic, but also a silly goal that you won't get much out of.

Oddly enough, jokingly flirting with guys has actually made me plenty of friends. But expect to consistently hit on them and have your girlfriend question your sexuality.
