because they are times where staff aren't able, or simply haven't marked it in progress yet, and i wouldn't put it past the general public of gmod to leave right after answering their report, or in the event that the player is alive while reported, that they leave even before they see the report.
Your guys' reasoning for -1'ing this thread is silly in my opinion. You all have this idea that the player in question will somehow forget that they have a report open if they are able to close the alert either by accident or forgetting that they did. As far as accidentally closing it goes, the only real opportunities you have to close it is if you have a menu open (scoreboard, d/t menu, post round, etc.) so it is highly unlikely you just accidentally close it out. On the other you have them just forgetting that they closed it out and forgot they had a report. And here I believe Crowned is right when he says it's the players responsibility to keep track of it. But what's the big deal of them making appeals? Let them make their appeals. If you feel that they didn't care enough because they "forgot" about the alert when closing it out, tell them in the appeal. Discuss it with them in the appeals. If you feel the need to deny them because of it, they will learn from it. I like the idea of being able to minimize the alert. The thing is the servers should always be looking for ways to improve the quality of life for players on the servers. And this one kinda goes both ways. Having the alert there is good to have a reminder for players that they have a report in case they would maybe forget. But on the other side of that, not all players should be stuck with this message on their screen because some players would just forget or close the alert and forget and then appeal. It almost feels like a one bad apple spoils the whole bunch kinda thing here. Because there are those few who cause these possible issues, everyone has to deal with it. It almost feels like a punishment in itself to have the alert sitting on my screen lol.
I just think if it was the closed option then we'd have more Rdm and leaves from more of the non regulars that appear on our server including trolls. I mean making it from the whole message to a simple exclamation point would be nice and all you have to do is just hover over it to extend it back out again.
I'm indifferent to the idea of allowing it to be closed while staff are online. When there's someone there to handle the report, it usually won't be there too long, and is there for the sake of deterring you from leaving with a slay/report. I'm going to say that it shouldn't be something you can close if a staff member is on, because it usually isn't there that long. However, I see absolutely no reason that it should be there when there isn't anyone to handle the report. It's probably possible to code given that we have !stuck that works when a staff member isn't online, and just sends a message to admin chat when there is a staff member online. +1 to a version where it can be closed while no staff members are online.
+1, I can't say more than what has already been said. But if you close out of the warning, you are doing so knowingly. And if you read it, then forget about it. Your own fault, no excuse. Don't you think, that when someone goes to close it, they'll at least read it first? If they don't then that sucks for them. There should be no excuse they can throw at you. Because they knowingly closed out of a warning that stated they could be punished due to a report against them.
I fail to see how a staff member being online is relevant at all. It's an eye sore, even if it's there for only a couple rounds. Some people have brought up this change potentially causing more RDM and Leaves, and all that really is doing is making a fuss over a useful quality of life change - especially if it just minimizes the screen, not removing it completely. Yeah, there are going to be accidental bans because people forget, but is that really an issue? Are you guys actually so exhausted with staffing that you'd trade a small amount of easy ban appeals for a simple change that would make playing better? That's a harsh way of putting it, but that's how I see it in the end. When the only people disliking the suggestion ( at this point ) are staff members, and there would be a chance at a few more appeals, that's what it looks like. Anyway, +1.
Why not just make it so it closes on it's own after ~2 rounds if no one has started handling the report? And appears again when someone does start handling it.
Okay kinda in the middle. Because it's suppose to be annoying, to let people know to not leave. It should appear on the screen normally, but then you can minimize it to like a tiny square in the corner of the screen. Then if someone complains about not seeing it, then well, it's their fault. You YOURSELF have to minimize it.
+1, this would be very nice. And to keep it from being "forgotten", leave a marker of some sort, maybe up in the far corner. We just need the ability to minimize it to something smaller and less obtrusive as in the top center of your screen.
Maybe only for our vip's and staff, but i wouldn't leave it up to newer players to be able to renove the warning
The notification has it's purpose, but it becomes an annoyance after a while, Also there was never a problem with RDM and Leaves before it existed so why would it cause a massive wave after a way to remove it? +1 to the suggestion or get more staff so servers don't go unstaffed and it wouldn't be a problem
it's really annoying when you are being toxic in game and the mods hold a report on you to keep you from leaving so their admin can come and ban you for 4 weeks. would be a godsend to hide it +1
i actually feel like it's a good reminder, why is people bothered by everything lol nvm: it's actually not a bad idea, if people remove it and then forget about it then they should simply not use that functionality, but i feel like it could be cool for a lot of people +1
Whyy hasn't this been added, just being able to minimize it to an exclamation mark would be amazing +1
+1, you should be able to turn it off completely in the f1 menu imo, us big boys can remember whether or not we have active reports up for ourselves. I don't need some stupid reminder hogging up my valuable screen space.
