So, recently got my first job. Working at 7-11. They have been training me to work the graveyard shift which is from 9pm - 5am. So far, I have only actually worked two shifts during this time, my training has been during the day just so I can get practice before I work nights (since you work by yourself). But, in my two grave yard shifts, I have had a few weird experiences and will update with every new experience. So, my first night shift. I was working like usual, and then the phone rings, so I answered it. It's 2:00 am so I am wondering who would be calling at this time. "Hi, this is ryan from the south 7-11 how can I help you" "Oh hey man, I knew this was Ryan, I just wanted to hear you talk again." the guy sounded completely wasted, all of a sudden, there is a woman in the background that yells "we love your voice!" So at this point I just hung up because I had no idea what to do and my co-worker was laughing his ass off. Second night, it's 3:30am. In Oregon, it is illegal to sell alcohol after 2:30am. So this guy stumbles in an hour after we stop selling drinks and walks to the cooler. (all the doors are locked) He walks up to the counter and say in a completely slurred voic "Hey, do you guys sell booze?" My coworker says "Not past 2:30" "Ok, I understand, but what if I pay you $20" "My job is worth more than that" "how about $20 for you and your friend?" (The friend being me.) "No, we can't sell alcohol after 2:30" "I.. I know man. I know what you mean. What if I make it $40 for each of you" "No sir, we can't." at this point, he walks over to my register... "C'mon man, can you sell me a drink?" "I'm sorry, but it is against Oregon state law to sell any drinks after 2:30" "I know man. I know. I'll give each of you $40 if I can get a drink." "No we CANNOT sell any alcohol." After about another 15 minutes of this type of back and forth the guy walks back to my counter. "Hey man, can I get a high 5 before I go" He stuck his hand out like a hand shake so I just swung at his hand to give him a high 5. He grabbed my hand and went into a one armed hug and then walked out.
No, we do have buttons to alert the police though. Also, I just got off another shift. Had a guy on meth come in to the store tonight. He was talking about a mist that was following him and warning everyone in the store. He said that people came out of the mist, kidnapped his sister, raped her, and then killed her and dumped her in a ditch. and that's when my assistant manager asked told him to leave.
My god. They should give you a gun. I mean, guys on meth, guys trying to bribe you for beer, who even knows what's next.
Get a gun permit. That silent alarm won't be of any use since you'll be robbed or dead by the time the popo comes.
I think you guy are overacting a bit. Also, if someone tried robbing the store and was holding you at gun point, the last thing you would want to do is reach down and grab a gun. That's how you get shot.
Sure, maybe, but think of places that get robbed 7-11 is probably in the top 5 if not top 10. I was referring to when you have that crazy coked out guy who is harassing you, that is when you pull the gun and tell him to get out. If somebody actually starts robbing you with a gun it could definitely hold them up long enough for the popo to arrive and also not that many people rob with a firearm, most rob with melee weapons.
