The power went out and my desktop shut off while I was using it. Then when it rebooted it said there was a problem and now all I can see is a black screen with my cursor. Is my windows corrupt or something?

Can we get a more detailed description? Perhaps a picture?

image.jpg Yeah sure. Basically the pc reboots, comes up with a quickly displayed and sent away error message, and goes to this black screen with nothing but my cursor.

Your outlet properly short circuited, check that out. Not by yourself, maybe get an electrician.

I don't think its a short. The PC is still posting past the EFI (I would say BIOS but oh my times have changed). Try either Last Known Good Configuration or a System Restore to earlier this week. If I'm not mistaken Microsoft required a recovery partition at least and does System Restores practically every two days. Keep us posted on the results.

Well I tried the system refresh and restore. It took 3 hours each and ended with an error with the drives. Going to bestbuy tomorrow.

    Do you have a backup?

You can always use something like Ubuntu to put your computer in read only mode to grab your files and do a clean install. Hiren's Boot CD works too. Since it seems like a full backup at this point might be rather useless. I would go the Ubuntu then clean install route.
