Hello, I'm pretty sure that everyone either loves or hates dolls with it's current status. A while ago I was playing on a TTT server that had a different version of the map that was a lot more enjoyable. Some of the major differences between dolls and the other version are: Color Scheme: The classic white and pink theme gets transformed into a more boy-ish theme with blue walls and a wooden trim instead of the white trim. The posters, pillows, and fan all have changed colors as well. Fan: The fan was moved to the desk where the pens used to be, now there is a television that broadcasts a live feed of the testing room. Tester: As mentioned above there is a tester on this map, it's entrance is well hidden but once you figure it out it is very clever Vents: The vent system has been extended featuring a destroyable grate in the ceiling and in the section where there is a ramp. The vent system also has new traitor traps inside along with and extension of the ladder in the sniping area near the mirror. Traitor Traps: There are now traitor traps such as disabling power to the television, turning on fans in the vents, and dropping balls to crush innocents. Traitor Room: There is one traitor room concealed up in the vents which houses all of the controls for the various traps and has three teleporters to different locations around the map. They take you to places like under the bed and to the testing room. Miscellaneous: Now in the negative space on the shelf where traitors like to snipe there is a radio with three song selections that can be toggled by shooting it, the radio features an off switch and a limited range of hearing. There also is a light switch near the sniping hole in the closet where anyone can turn off the lights in the room (just like clue but it can be toggled by falling people and possible bullets). In the tester room there is also a bread machine to turn corpses into some yummy food. Now, here are the screenshots in spoilers: Spoiler: Screenshots Spoiler: Color Scheme / Map Overview Spoiler: Vents As seen above is a destroyable grate that would be just wide enough to parkour over and is commonly used for traitors as a sniper post. As seen above is the extended portion of the ramp with the bookshelf sniper area, that grate is destructible compared to the dolls version. This is where the broken ladder used to be but was extended in this version to allow access to the vents up higher. A new entry point to the vent system, used to be indestructible but in this version it leads up to an area near the first vent picture. Spoiler: Traitor Room and Traps This is the entrance to the traitor room in the new section of the vents. Overview of traitor room. The three teleporters. Drops balls on people in the vents outside to the left of the glass. Costs two credits to use but it can be very deadly. Turns on the vent causing air to push people through the vents on a two minute cooldown. Television before it is unplugged, it is broadcasting a view into the testing room. The television once the power is cut. Spoiler: Testing Room Overview of the tester and the room as a whole. Here the bread machine can be seen in the corner along with another angle of the map. Due to the 20 image limit please look at the Full Imgur Album for a more detailed view such as the light switch. If you want me to release a video I would be willing to do a fly through with no-clip. I will make sure to test this in single player to make sure the buttons are functioning properly and fix up any errors if needed. Note to Staff: If I did this wrong could you please tell me how to fix my errors?
Testing room? T traps? Looking good so far +1 I don't see a need for a change in color scheme, but if it's the only way then do it.
I did not make this map personally, I just remember playing on it a long time ago. I was just willing to go through in hammer and make and tweaks such as a T-Trap not working or being too strong.
I actually like the white and pink colors of the original but as Python said if it's the only way do it
I just want to keep the Hostages... But otherwise, +1; I think a few other maps need some sort of change, just to spice it up.
It's quite ugly. -1. The posters are quite out of place. They don't match the walls or the theme at all. Perhaps you could try to copy the DoTA posters from Teenroom? Also, that pillow is terrifying. Once again, it doesn't really match the theme. The wooden textures don't really match either. It's not terrible, but it just doesn't look right. The whole outside area has a very messy appearance, while Dolls has a clean, bright atmosphere. Also, if it's a boys room, why is there a dollhouse? The final issue I have is that Dolls is fine the way it is. It doesn't need to be changed into a boys room with completely different colors. The upgrades are fine- I LIKE the testing area and the TV. However, I'm still keeping my -1 because the color updates and theme changes are unnecessary and hard to look at. TLDR: The colors aren't good, the updates are.
Yeah, I agree with you in those aspects. I will see if I can retexture this map because I personally never altered it in the first place. Not sure if I could though considering I've never used Hammer before.
I wanna keep the dolls though... I mean, they're hostages in a box! What more could you ask? Besides that, I think this new dolls is a bit too dark and menacing for my taste, but the updates are incredible. +0.5
Thank you for the replies. I will look into reskinning the map in Hammer. Maybe after that it would appeal more.
+1 I think this would be a great idea, seeing as new maps make our experience funner, just the room looks like it would need "fresh" colors. This boy looks like he lives in hell ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)
-1, Dolls has always been simplistic and I think this takes away from that; complicates it. Also it was the first map I ever played in STTT, so the nostalgia gets to me. It remains to be my favourite map. As Neon Barbarian said, "If it ain't broke don't fix it". Also it looks very depressing, and I agree with @Han Solo in the fact that it is ugly. EDIT: Didn't see how old this was, sorry
