Is there a difference (concerning traitorous acts) between throwing a discomb and dropping a discomb?
The map was terrortrain and it was on the open portion of the map near the middle. The guy threw the discomb and then ran up the ladder and tried to get away. I called him out and shot him dead... turns out he dropped the discomb, and it didnt go off. After I died, he reported me for "rdm, such fantastic, much traitorous" or something along that line. I was then slayed for it after trying to explain that dropping and throwing a discomb are essentially the same thing when the person who threw it runs away.

As said in-game, and the shoutbox, dropping and throwing are 2 different actions. Not only do they look different, but the act of throwing a grenade means it will go off, whether that is an explosion or fire (frag, incend). Simply dropping the grenade is not traitorous at all. You were slain because of that.

I started the thread because I wanted more than 2 people's opinion on it. Also, there was no dirt splash from it hitting the ground. Most other TTT server's I used to play on regarded throwing and dropping to be the same thing.... traitorous.

Dropping a grenade should appear as an underhand throw, while throwing a grenade appears as an overhand throw.

Ask yourself this, why do we kill players for throwing discombobs, incendiaries, and frags? We kill players for this action because these grenades can damage or hurt players. Can a dropped grenade injure or kill a player? Does a dropped grenade threaten a players life? The answer is no, we do not consider dropping grenades a traitorous act, as the act of dropping a grenade does not put anyone in danger.

Correct me if I am wrong, but I believe that all the grenades make a noise when they are thrown and are silent when they are dropped.

Dropping is an underhand throw that makes the sound of any weapon being dropped when it hits the ground. Throwing is an overhand throw that, unless it's a frag, makes no sound and goes much farther.

You have to pay attention to the trajectory and the sound.

  9. This is silly. Dropping a grenade is not traitorous at all in any affect. It sounds to my like you didn't pay attention to the grenade being dropped and over reacted. It is absurd to think that I can be killed for dropping a weapon and then walking away.

I believe it should be considered Traitor Baiting. I mean, in real life, if someone throws or drops something that looks remotely like a nade, you run for the hills right? You don't pay attention to whether it still has its pin on or if it was thrown away or just dropped.

But then TTT isn't real life, so I'll let the admuns decide on this one

In real life, you don't play TTT. In real life, people are shot for pointing a weapon towards someone; they don't have to open fire.

The only form of traitor baiting is shooting towards someone. There are distinct differences in dropping and throwing grenades. This is just another thing that separates trigger happy noobs from good players.

If you can't tell the difference between a grenade being dropped and one being thrown you deserve to be slayed.
