I feel like someone should make this and staff has yet to do so, so I said "Why not?" Well, recently the server has been DDos'ed. For those of you who don't know, a DDos is defined with this statement, "DDOS is a type of DOS attack where multiple compromised systems -- which are usually infected with a Trojan -- are used to target a single system causing a Denial of Service (DoS) attack. Victims of a DDoS attack consist of both the end targeted system and all systems maliciously used and controlled by the hacker in the distributed attack." What this means is that someone is sending packets through our servers which make it very laggy. Please be patient so we can fix this issue swiftly. This is hard work to take care of so I stress that you be patient with Highwon and all other staff members working on this as they are very full with work. As always, Your friend - CD Sources: http://www.webopedia.com/TERM/D/DDoS_attack.html
DDoS: Distributed Denial of Service. Put very simply: slam the server with so many requests that it cannot possibly respond to all of them quickly enough. Imagine getting yelled at by a hundred people at once. Then a thousand. Then ten thousand. Get the point? -- What have you guys been doing in the time you would have spent on Serious TTT servers?
I'm aware but it couldn't hurt to inform the users who haven't been already, you know? Please don't think I meant to bash staff on this post. I'm just informing users. @MangoTango
Cutting. because I can't administrate and my moderators can't staff :C Life is horrible. Kidding. Been playing TF2 lately, some CS, minecraft, other stuff somewhat
It was a DDoS attack, but it has special characteristics. You have different types. See here: http://www.incapsula.com/ddos/ddos-attacks/ Normally people would just do a UDP attack or a UDP-Lag (like UDP but in short bursts) attack, but in this case I'm fairly certain we were attacked with a zero-day attack. There's a specific attack method designed for source engine servers, and there's another for Minecraft servers. We were most likely hit with the source engine one. Most likely whoever attacked us paid some random guy $10 to hit us.
Sound's like a real personal vendetta kind of move. Your very familar with how this all works, any prediction's on how long it would take to stop these indivudal's and if it's even possible?
From the sound of it it's been over. But it sounds like it may have screwed up some of our data and Highwon has had to fix it, and in the process see if there's any ways to prevent the future use of that attack type.
