I sometimes see players getting hurt by going near props that are stuck in doors, or by props being pushed away at high velocities by such doors, which can also damage other players. I think there is a confusion about who is responsible for such damage (moreover logs only show damage by "The World"), as it is not mentioned in the rules. Should the player that placed the prop under the door be responsible by all damage caused by this prop? I think that it should be the case, because that often leads to unavoidable damage to other players, in the case the prop gets thrown out at high velocity (totally unpredictable), or when a players get near a door and doesn't notice the prop being stuck. An even more stringent rule would be to consider putting a prop in a door as traitorous; after all, I do not see any positive aspect of doing it except breaking the map and/or damaging other players. Of course fixing all doors so that they don't have this behavior would be even better (some just open when they detect something is preventing them from closing), but modifying maps isn't something that could really be done by SGM. As for damage logs, I think it would be possible to know the last player that moved a prop using the magneto stick (there are events for everything on GMod's API, I bet there is one for when a prop is grabbed by a player), link this info to the prop, and consider all damage made by the prop as damage made by that player (and not "The World"). I haven't touched at the GMod's API for a long time, so that's just based on assumptions on what I remember, maybe this is not even possible.
Placing props in doors is not KOSable unless you see it damage another player There is a way to see a prop damage one player did to another, but it only stays for so long
Hence the "suggestion" ^^ Moreover nothing mentionned to this respect in the rules Not in the case I was mentioning, if that is not direct prop damage from a player it will be considered as from "The World".
@Teeku I have banned plenty of people from being able to see them put the prop in a door, that later kills a ton of people. We are able to view the death of said players (if we are there during that map of course) and if it was by a prop, we are able to go back and review footage to see who did it. When it comes to just damage, it can be tricky to find, but it is definitely possible with some extra time for the staff. For example, someone putting couches in the doors on Terror Train, anyone walking by it and touching it dies from it. I can go into the death scenes and view who put that there as they are responsible. Again, the only issue with this is it's only slayable if there is staff online at the time. If players are purposely placing props into door ways that get stuck and cause damage (most players know what they are doing when they do this), they are 100% held responsible for the damage they cause.
Is there a way to have this mentioned in the rules as a clarification if that is what is currently applied? Also, I believe door blocking by a prop should be traitorous (or forbidden in general cause there is no way to target someone), and this should be mentioned. Do you mean that the whole state of the map is recorded every round, and it is possible for the staff to see what happened at a specific location of the map and at a specific time during the round? Anyway, it may be possible to have damage made by a prop linked to the last player that grabbed it, whether it was a second or 2 minutes ago. Therefore it would appear in the damage logs, and it would be easier to track who used that trick to damage other players.
I'm not entirely sure why it should be, it should be common sense in my opinion. Normally all players need to do is PM a staff member that someone is doing it and they can check death scene. Technically yes. But there are some caveats to actually being able to view the prop damage/kill depending on if there was a death or not (if there was, it makes it easier). I do think that adding some type of tool that links who last moved the prop into the logs would be really helpful, although we can't use that as a final determination for the verdict of causing harm to someone with it. Example: You place a prop in the door to damage players. I then bring out my magneto stick to try and move the prop, now my name is linked to said prop even though I never put it there. So this would be useful but it can't be the final say in who caused the damage. Hopefully that makes sense.
