Seriously though, make it modded There are hundreds and hundreds of unmodded communities that will do whatever we can come up with way better, with way more people. A modded server can fill a niche that isn't there yet. one of the big modpacks, something like RLcraft or one of the magical world packs will give a lot of content, a lot of growth, a lot of everything.
What if we did something actually unusual. Like with mods, make a wave-based survival server, where every few nights mobs and bosses come attacking a collective base, and while players have their own separate plots of land to work upon, they have to work together to defend the whole lot of them. If enough people join, there could even be offshoot communities (a set number of factions) where joined members can vote to exile. And to retain individual bases, there is a mod that adds pocket spaces that would manage that perfectly. You know, something Interesting and Unique instead of minecraft server w/plugins #3,406 Edit: Basically, we have two options: Make this a fully-accessible server that only a handful of people will actually stick around for, just like last time, or make it an interesting server that some people won't be able to access, but not only will get people to stick around, but will actually draw people in.
You guys remember DvZ? Dwarfs vs Zombies was great. I still got the source code but didn't maintain it over the years. Apart from that, for the start I suggest some modes that don't require many players, like Skyblock or Plot Building. Once a solid playerbase exists, you can go into the direction of Factions or Minigames
You know what would be cool to see? At some point (probably a bad idea to start with) that it evolves to a server with a mini hub that redirects players to other servers, which includes a server for both the Modded Chads and the casual Vanilla enjoyers. That way you may catch the interest for both halfs of Mc Players. Maybe even throw in mini Creative server, with building events, that reward players with Items or ranks on the other 2 servers. This is however a long run suggestion, not so much a during setup thought
I don't know if this has been brought up elsewhere because I haven't been keeping up with all the new SGM MC stuff lately, but if the SGM MC server is to have some form of "multiple different gamemodes" that can host a lot of players then I think a hub server that moves players to other servers for the gamemodes may be required. Minecraft multiplayer servers are notorious for struggling to host a large number of people on a single world which is why so many servers opt to just have many small hub worlds dedicated to just moving players around.
All these ideas are great and all, but the thought of SMC starting out as some complex server with all these different plugins and mechanics does not instill a great amount of confidence in me about the success of this server. I'm just a little concerned that too much content might be a little overwhelming at launch. Could we get an official sneak-peak or something about what/how many addons the server will have (besides the card packs, of course)?
mystery crate keys that cost $35 dollars each, the true pay to win experience. don't forget to make 23 ranks and the top rank allows you to tpa to someone
