Would like to undergo the process of learning how to handle one properly and legally later this or sometime in the next year. People are fucking crazy and I don't wanna take any chances, especially for both my family households (divorced parents) and friends (we may all be living together for college in the next year or so) Doubt I'll open carry cause I get how some people in public may find distaste in that, but since you have to be 21 to conceal carry here I'd be more likely to do that once I can. But again It would probably just stay in my car if anything.

Doubt I'll have any problems with my parents, they were all raised in Alaska so guns aren't an issue to them, and my stepmother grew up on a ranch in Arizona with a father who was basically a badass cowboy.

as a non american i currently only have 2 gas powered air pistols which are both full metal replicas of a beretta 92a1 and a deagle made by their respective companies. they both fire steel bb's which fucking hurt when they come at you at 480FPS

i plan on getting a gas powered m4 when i can justify it, i used to go to skirmish's but havent been in years

If you seriously want to purchase a weapon for self defense I’d recommend going to a gun range that has guns you can rent. They should have a ton of different make and model and caliber. Start off with a .22 and up from there once you get comfortable. There’s a few things to keep in my mind when selecting a pistol.

First, you should ask someone to show you how to do a proper firing stance, and how to hold it properly. You want to stand in a way that you won’t get knocked on your ass when you fire the gun as you’ve probably seen in YouTube videos of idiots using firearms when they have no clue what they’re doing.

Secondly, you want to keep in my mind what kind of body you have. If you’re a big fat ass motherfucker you can probably use a higher caliber more easily due to the fact that your body has more area to disperse the recoil. If you’re a small little scrawny dude, then you probably want to stick with a smaller caliber.

Third is the composition of the weapon, and the size of it. Guns that have a polymer frame tend to absorb less recoil, and will be just a tad bit harder to fire consecutively. Additionally, the smaller the gun the less there is to absorb the recoil, so you’ll get a bigger kick. So if you have a long ass cartoon gun made out of metal, you’ll probably not have as much recoil as something smaller and made out of polymer.

The last thing to take into consideration is how much you’re willing to carry, and the type of weapon. I carry a snub nose .357 as my concealed carry for a few reasons. 1. If I hit you in the chest with a .357 you’re probably going to be incapitated or dead in the first shot. 2. If you have semi-automatic weapons if you’re in a close struggle what can happen is the weapon can stove-pipe, which basically means that the last round didn’t eject properly, so you basically have a spent round in the chamber with another live round So the slide won’t close properly and you won’t be able to fire the gun. That doesn’t happen with a revolver since the casings Dont eject. 3. The Final reason is you don’t want your bullet to penetrate and hit someone else, so there’s no reason to carry some stupid shit like a .50 or a .45.

Just keep this kind of shit in mind when you go to purchase.

Edit: if you’re wondering, yes I own a few guns.

Hingle basically said it all. .22 is literally nothing though, its a baby gun. When I shot a .22 I literally felt nothing. So I guess its a good starter if your scared. I started with a 9mm and had no issues. One thing Hingle didn't mention was that it can be difficult to load the ammunition into the magazine sometimes.

I've done it by hand before but after a while it just hurts. A magazine loader is usually what I use. But that's if you even get a semi-automatic . If you are trying to get one for defense, like Hingle said, the semi-automatic can jam and revolvers will most likely not have any issues.

Having good aim was 1 of my problems, and it was all because my grip on the gun wasnt exactly right. I watched lots of youtube videos and not a lot talked about positioning of your hand on the gun. After I got that right, I used a bore sight to see where my bullets would go. Bore sight is basically a fake bullet that shoots a laser out the barrel. Nice to have one of those too.

No I dont own a gun, but I have a pump action shotgun in my room. I also have a c02 BB gun. But I wouldn't even consider them real guns.

30-30 lever action was my first rifle. i mainly use a .270 right now. i also have a .300 short mag, but i use that to make piggies explode.

I don't have any hand guns but I really want the five-seven. The ammunition is a bit expensive but holy shit that guns fun to shoot

Yeah this is a good point, I don’t own a lot of semi-automatic guns so I don’t typically load mags but when I do I use a speed loader which is what Panduh is talking about they’re pretty inexpensive they cost maybe 30-50 dollars.

One thing I did forget to mention though is if you do decide to get a revolver, I’d recommend you buy one where you can manually pull down the hammer. The reason for that is if you have one where the hammer is built in a way where you can’t pull it down yourself then you’ll add additional weight on your trigger pull. Pulling too hard on the trigger is one of the biggest reasons why people have a hard time aiming the gun, so if you can pull that hammer back yourself and have a lighter trigger pull it makes it easier, for me at least.

If you’re struggling with aim, I’d definitely recommend asking some of the guys that own or work at the gun range. Typically they’re old timers who know what they’re doing. For me, I was lucky enough to have a gentlemen who was a national sharpshooting champion, and since I went to the range later at night he could teach me how to shoot. The biggest things are hand placement, feet placement, and watching the bend in your arms. Once you get those down it’s fairly simple.

One last thing about aim is obviously you want to hit what you’re aiming at, but more important you want to look at how your shots are clustered, if you’re hitting the target all over the place that’s not a good thing, even if you’re hitting it in the head because that’s more of a chance that you’ll have a stray bullet that could hit a bystander if you ever did have to use the gun. The way I practice is I put the target at various distances and I aim dead center in the chest and try to group my cluster as tight as I can. The closer my shots are together the better.

Don’t aim for the head, always aim center mass.

I didn't expect this thread to be so popular.
I agree with Hingle 100%. There are plenty of places that let you rent guns so you can practice with them before buying. Good luck finding a gun right now that is worth getting that doesn't cost 1k or more though. Also, if you said that guns are the problem and meant it I genuinely want to hear your opinion on the matter. Feel free to DM me on discord Wolfy53#2373 or just reply to this thread.
Here is a few of the guns i own that i practice with regularly. I lost the rest in a boating accident for anyone wondering ;)
