I'm not so sure. Within a very small radius, combined with trading, I can get whatever I need whenever I need it, and since I don't actively participate in PVP, you won't find me leaving that radius. I know that about a dozen other people play like me, hermitting out in the wilderness. Making the map smaller would have minimal impact on things, especially with a daylight cycle, with the exception of making scarce resources, like Sea Lanterns, harder to obtain. Though, it would have the potential to make mining an issue if the server survives that long.

As for the mining cap, how exactly does that come into play? I have a stack of diamond blocks. Making that stack a third or forth that size would have Zero impact on my gear, especially since I get a lot of it from Ender ships.

A smaller map size only really serves to help the PVP community, while making every other aspect of the game just more annoying, and it's aid to PVP is marginal at best

Honestly I'm stuck between not enough replayable content and i got bored of doing the same things. I honestly feel as if there isn't enough to do after you've accomplished to get a decent amount of money and the right gear.

I don't know really. I don't feel like there's enough replayable content for me to do and keep on going.

Bored of the game since not much players play to make it a lively server.
Most items and the shop are overpriced, and they still haven't fixed them.
There're more games to play that has better graphics and replayability than MC.

I finished my base tower more or less, school came up, and there are too many people on the server who I butt heads with. All these combined puts MC pretty low on my priority list. Also the catch-22 of nobody being on so nobody wants to play.

I think that the server is essentially dead at this point.

The more people say 'the server is dead' the more they discourage others to play. Just because one can't find joy out of playing on the server doesn't mean someone else can't either. We we're on with just over 10 people the other day (I live in Europe so it's usually relatively quiet when I'm on because of the 6+ hour time difference with North Amreica). As long as people are playing the server is not 'dead'.
Also the build team has done quite some work the past few days to bring new content to the server.

I dislike all the people who come on here and just say the server is dead without actually trying to add anything meaningful or helpful to the problem. Thats not how problems are solved. Pessimistic mentalities are the ones who make progress impossible, and we want progress, because there is still hope for the server.

  14. I don't see the point in being so discouraged about the server. Or constantly saying the server is dead like a broken record. The devs are trying their hardest to bring out new content, it's not like they abandoned it all together. Which is what everyone who says it's dead is making it seem. Improvements won't come out right away. It takes time and preparation to make something that's long lasting with little bugs or to prevent things that might just bring the server back to where it is now. Yea, I agree the player count daily has dropped quite a lot but the people that stick around are the ones who haven't given up. But I'm a full blown optimist so I can't really see a point to all this negativity from the majority of the people in this thread

Saying a server is dead just because some "personality" said it was dead for them doesn't mean it is truly dead.
This is why I hate mainstream media scrubs irl, just following whatever they see on tv and what their celebrity idols say.

Not everyone has the intuition to diagnose why they aren't having fun anymore though. Sometimes, people just get bored of something and express their boredom. If I've ever used the word "dead", it was probably an over exaggeration. The word that is more appropriate for the server is dying. It's unarguably lost a lot of its activity, and whether or not you can point the finger at the devs, the individual player, or the nature of Survival Minecraft itself is up for debate. While coming onto the forums and simply doomsaying the servers lifespan isn't constructive, it is a sign that players are unhappy with the state of the server. Again, whether or not the blame rests on those three categories is sort of a case by case basis.

Personally, I knew for myself it wouldn't last long as a Vanilla Survival MC Server. They never do. It's fun for the first month or so and then it drops off when you have sort of "completed" the game. I don't have the capacity or the patience to constantly give myself projects in Minecraft to stay happy and active. There's just too many other good games in the market to do the same stuff over and over again on a 6+ Year old game. The beginning of Minecraft, to me personally, is the funnest part of the Vanilla game.

Exploring, gathering resources, building a cool base, getting end game content, and then quitting. That's the timeline I always follow in Vanilla MC. It usually lasts just under 3 weeks because I have such a blast in those first few phases that I spend crazy long consecutive hours doing so. That's why I'm constantly pushing for server resets (and regular resets at that. Think RUST or Diablo 3/2 Seasons/Leaderboards). Imagine a RUST server that never reset. Everyone eventually has everything and there's now no point in raiding. (Except we can't raid so its even less appealing). I have no need to go mining, no need to build a spawner, no need to do anything!
That's why I have no interest in returning. I have nothing to do.
That's why I am here, selfishly saying what I would like to see the server become.
Because I want to have fun again.

That all being said, I understand completely that my interests are not the servers interests. SMC has to cater to a large variety of players, which is really really hard to do. MY best suggestion to decide which direction to go would be a democratic system. An official poll where everyone can vote on which way to server should go.

This kind of turned into a rant really quickly, so I'm just gonna leave this as is and respond to anyone who has questions.
Or you can just rate this as dumb. (y)

There is no particular thing or person/people to "blame" for the server losing population.

Multiple issues have arisen, as is what happens with any kind of new server regardless of game mode, and I feel like things weren't necessarily rushed in the beginning but there was no genuine place for people to collect and say "this is what we want with the server" until it was already made. Making improvements based upon players requests after the fact is great, but 1/5(loosely) had left by that point. Then the pvp changes and we lost another 1/5. Then people started crying about PvP so even more people left.

There's no going back to the original hype that MC once had, unfortunately. They can remake the server. Reset it and wipe all the stats and money, but this community just isn't meant for a game like MC unless it's pve and I feel like that's been pretty apparent so far. Very few want to get their shit fucked up, but they're more than willing to fuck other peoples shit up. You want to PvP? Die like the rest of us. No one is special.

I genuinely feel like the only way I'll "come back" to the way I was playing before is if the server is completely wiped and completely revamped.

I have been thinking of a few things to suggest, so I'll just put them here. Please keep in mind I have zero experience developing a MC server and I'm not sure if my suggestions are actually possible.
    • Make a PvE village for those that want it, with people only getting a 10x10 or 15x15 area to build in on their own or all having "cookie-cutter" houses. Having a small, limited area to build in could potentially lead people to wanting to build elsewhere to achieve the level of intricacy they desire and if all the houses look the same, it's gonna be pretty boring. I personally would feel like expanding elsewhere just to build a place I could put everything and was aesthetically pleasing.
    • Dev-created mob spawners that are free-use in the PvP area with no player-made xp grinders, with the exception of herbalism and fishing.
    • Take out majority of the market or make it something you sell to and not buy from aside from things like animal spawners and general items like cobble, coal, etc. The idea of a player-based market is truly fantastic, but it came a little too late and I don't feel like we will really see the potential of it until numbers get back to where they were.
    • Change the rate in which you get claim blocks. 100/h is a lot. Majority of the time people were left with ample amount to do nothing with because their claim limit had been reached. With claims going from bedrock to skycap, you don't really need to use that many blocks to claim something unless it's really wide. 25-50/h with claim blocks being purchasable would be a money sink for a while for those that wish to have large areas. On the same turn, give everyone 2 claims to start out and purchase more claims; yet another money sink.
    • I understand this is in the works, but I'll still add it: purchasing /homes. More money sink.
    • Another thing in the works: Make jobs worth the effort. Give more money, but not an exorbitant amount like some people have requested. People like to "get rich quick" and that's a huge turnoff. Having a lot of money doesn't mean anything if everyone has it and they all boost auctions to the skybox for shit like heads and coal blocks.
    • Give a limit to auctions. Nothing can go above x amount. Not only would this keep people from stockpiling cash to undermine the market, but it could potentially help circulation or trading physical goods instead of money. Something I liked to do was offer an item for an item. You want this stack of gold? Give me some glowstone and random building mats.
    • Find some way to renew the Nether every couple of weeks.
    • Wipe the server once a month so people can't stockpile and/or have a short "raid" time. If people don't log in and use something, whether it be a door or a chest or even pressing a button, within 72 hours, then their house can be raided. If you care about your stuff, you'll find 2 minutes to log in and open a chest once every 3 days.

Those are all I can think of for now. I'm sure plenty of people will disagree and that's totally okay, but at least I'm trying to come up with suggestions to fix the server instead of crying about it dwindling.

First off, insult not needed Relapse. Second of all, I am one of the only few people who are actually fighting to keep the server alive. One has to be realistic: the server is in all senses dead. But that doesnt mean we cant bring it back and make it better. To solve a problem you first have to understand that there is a problem, and not be delusional. And every time I said the server was dead, it was just in an argument were I proposed solutions, unlike most people who just say its dead and complain with no actual end or input.
