What makes Sleep Deprivation DANGEROUS? Disrupts your Circadian Rhythm - Your body lives with your natural time clock. Disrupting the cycle leads to.... Strokes - Affects cardiovascular health, increasing the risk of restricting blood flow to the brain Breast Cancer - Late night exposure to light is linked to reduced melatonin production, leading to estrogen production, leading to growth of breast cancer Heart disease - When we sleep, our blood pressure drops. Not experiencing nightly drops in pressure is a risk factor for heart disease. Diabetes - Lack of sleep triggers our stress response ,leading to the release of stress hormones cortisol that leads to an increase in insulin resistance. Get a cycle going. Make bedtime 11pm-7am 10pm-6am Make sleep your priority. Video games are fun, but it's not worth sacrificing your health and even your LIFE for it! Spoiler: Lack of sleep leads to risk of cancer Spoiler: Sleep heals cancer!
Thanks for the informative post about sleep deprivation but while I understand your concern for the health of the people in the community. I don't understand why you needed to post this. But I guess I appreciate it. @Pandora
*Ahem* I believe that people can stay up if they want, it's there choice to harm their health. Anyway, I just stayed up all night so I am going to be honest, I have A LOT more fun playing games then I do sleeping. No wonder we don't sleep! There are other things we want to do! Gee wiz! Besides, I get my sleep during the day, So I am not deprived of it what so ever. Also, Our health should not be your concern, your health should be your concern, we should worry about our own health as individuals.
don't think many of us here sleep all too well, but yaknow, you learn to deal with it i'm working on it Spoiler: related, sorta also
http://www.m.webmd.com/sleep-disorders/guide/physical-side-effects-oversleeping Not claiming to be a physiologist or anything, but at least provide the important info to this double-edged sword.
I mean, I appreciate you looking out for our health. But I can't help but feel that you can sum up this thread with:
Best point of call is to listen to your body. Sleeping 11pm-7am may not be for everyone. All people will have varying sleep cycles and may work best on short bursts of sleep several times a day than one big sleep. Yeah sleep is great but sleeping in a way you dictate wont work for everyone. Focus on your own sleep. Don't mind everyone else cause what works for you, wont work for everyone else. Edit: Also should mention that yeah not enough sleep can cause cancer. Ya know what else can? Eating, breathing, living. No point trying to worry about shit like that. Live your life how you want to and be happy.
>sees this >takes note of this >wonders if he should sleep since its 1:30 AM >says fuck it and goes to play gmod
what's the point in trying to prolong your life with more sleep? My Einsteinian calculations; More sleep = more lifetime wasted Less sleep = more efficiently spent life, maybe shorter lifespan? It kind of balances itself out.. If I stuck with everything people tell me that's not good for me the quality of my life would be so shit and bland. In my personal opinion life is about quality not length. Don't let what you read scare you from doing things you enjoy! Kinda went off on a tangent there but y'know
As I sleep, I dream of what I've been playing, so technically I'm up all night. For those who actually can't sleep because of insomnia on the other hand.... probably still want to stay awake too Plus, when I try to sleep early, I end up spending a good 2-3 hours trying to sleep. Even with normal sleeping patterns. So... as a doctor, I approve with all the comments above! How the heck you wake me up? That's the real question.
Overwatch + Sleep = Less Lootboxes Overwatch + No sleep = More Lootboxes Can't argue with that tbh...
I don't see how this post is dumb.. rather rating it so is. But that doesn't mean I sleep and work like a robot. Ask @Thistlebutt if you don't believe me :3
I appreciate the idea behind posts like these, it seems like your heart is in the right place whenever you make a thread like this. Im writing this at 5 AM though and I'm waking up at 10.
Everyones sleep schedule varies as @C.A.Anna so kindly stated some peoples schedule changes based on what they want to do it's not like they are always up 24/7, they still sleep just later so your still getting what your body requires just at a later point then some others.
Tell this to a college student. Or rather, anyone who has to balance family life, homework, classes, self care, caring for others, studying for exams, and then doing something fun to make sure you dont die of stress. I sleep whenever I feel that there's not something else way more important to do, that determines my schedule. Might not be right, but I don't really have time for a sleeping schedule atm. I'll admit though in previous summers I've purposefully become an owl, and that's because at night I have time to myself.
