**You Can Enter Both The Charity And The Elite, Even If You Decide To Turn The Elite Into A Donation, You Can Enter Both!** So I've been wanting to do this for a while, I'm planning to buy 3 people Elite for a month each. Pretty simple right? There's another part, I've donated a percentage of my paychecks to different charities whenever possible (anonymously because I don't do it for respect I just do it because it feels right), some weeks had tight money issues and others I would give a bit more, so I would also like to give a donation to the charity of choice, this is two giveaways in one. The reason I've decided to do this today is mainly because my work has finally come to negotiations on wage and benefits, I now have medical benefits from work, my wage has been increased and I would like to give back to this community as well as other places that I may have not heard about. It's pretty simple to enter, rate this post so I know you want to be a part of it, then make a post with the following: -A memory or even something you are currently doing to help people, whether that's being a part of a charity and helping organize events, working in a soup kitchen, or even as little as helping someone across the street. -If you're entering for Elite and/or charity and the name of the charity. (I will be checking out any and all charities to see who and what they are, my biggest pet peeve is an organization that claims it's a charity but never actually gives back to it's full potential and just keeps most of the money for themselves, also needs to be a charity that I can donate to without being there in person, or one that I can find a way to work around this. Also thinking that if someone wants to buy clothes or presents or something themselves to hand out themselves, that I would be willing to work with that as well.) *An additional note, if you do not want Elite, I will double the price of it (40 bucks) and donate it to the charity of choice (Depending on the reliability and history of the charity). So that means it can be 0-3 Elites given out, and 1-4 charities donated to. **Also note that there will be 2 separate giveaways, one for the Elites, and one for the charity. ***Final note I swear! I'm open to suggestions on other ways to donate to charity, giving time to a food bank, handing out warm clothes or blankets to the needy etc, if you have any suggestions PM me or put it into your post, I may even do these if you aren't the winner. (I'm also planning a short road trip in December, so might even make it into something bigger). I might as well start just so no one feels awkward being the first. I have several memories, all the food drives at school, trying to beat the other classes for most non-perishables donated, and having the random times of "The Grinch" stealing them and we had to go find them, best time was when we found them and ended up throwing up in the middle of the classroom lol (I was 7 at the time). Another memory was just a few years ago, my mom and I headed down to the local pub before Christmas where they would wrap presents for children who were in low income housing or in a family where they couldn't afford presents (My mom had done it for years before this, and was friends with everyone there), even had the opportunity to deliver the presents to a few of the houses and the feeling was unforgettable. I'll choose the winners on November 15th, 2015 to give everyone ample amount of time to figure out their memories, the charity, and whether or not they want Elite. Can't wait to read the memories!
A local community club, that I have been apart of for three years now, performs 1920s-1950s acts every year during the holidays for the elderly. This year in particular will be something I will be looking forward to a lot since we'll be incorporating a wider range of arts to our ensemble like Drama or Poetry recitals (my personal favorite), than just the regular Choral and dance routines. Edit: Since I have elite now, I want a donation to go here. I am a big animal lover and I hate to see them suffer.
#confused but I'll try this So growing up in Portland, I've been doing homeless outreaches since I can remember. My favorite outreach is probably with Portland Rescue Mission who feed, clothe, and open up shelters for homeless people during the winter. The other ones I have done you couldn't donate to because they aren't an official N.P. cheers and thanks Roz
Winter 2013 I remember helping with food drive at a local university; they ended up getting a massive influx of food they hadn't planned accordingly for and sent out a request for hoards of volunteers to help package and move all the food around. I spent 3 days out there in the freezing cold repackaging food because they didn't have a place to keep all the food as it was so much more than they planned for. We ended up getting everything packaged and then filling their small in-doors basketball court. That was an amazing experience with tons of people, and it fed bounds more after such. Donating for charity / elite (if chosen for elite I'll take the double charity deal). I'll do some research for a charity, and edit that in here. I have one in mind, but I wanna do some double-checking / confirming. Edit: Charity of choice: ART (Animal Resources of Tidewater) Website: www.artanimals.org These guys helped my family and our pets out a tremendous amount in some rough times we went through. My mom now still keeps in contact with a lot of them to help get treatment for strays in her neighborhood.
Entering for Elite I go to this church and every christmas we go to a local hospital and donate gifts to the patients. 2013 year, this one patient prayed for me about a problem I had in real life and she somehow knew which shocked me a lot.
Entering for Elite Last week, I woke up around 5 AM for this event near downtown LA to help serve breakfast at this homeless shelter. It was a great experience.
I live in the middle of a poverty and violenced city, so it's so normal for me to see those who are constantly in financial problems. I don't know if this is considered giving back, but I babysit as a job, and majority of the time when I babysit, I do it for free. There's some families in my neighborhood who genuinely can't afford day care. I know how it usually goes down. The parent is working all day and needs someone to watch their kids after they get out of school. If they don't, the parent has to find another job that pays less and doesn't provide much benefits. I've seen it first hand and know it's a pretty common thing around me. I love doing it regardless if I get payed or not because I really enjoy taking care of kids. I know this isn't really a charity or anything, but I think it's really helpful to the families around me. Plus the kids love me I'm looking at different charities currently to see which one I'd like to put money towards, or different options to give back like the gifts as you mentioned so I'm entering for that, just not sure what I wanna do yet. Possibility this. Also entering for Elite.
Entering for Charity. Edit: BOTH CHARITY AND ELITE The most fond memory would be trips to the SPCA and the trip to the old folks homes. THE CATS AND DOGS WERE SO CUTE I WANTED TO ADOPT THEM ALL. OMG SOMEONE HELP ME. ALSO THE OLD FOLKS WERE ADORABLE, THEY WERE SO HAPPY TO SEE US , AND THE LOOK ON THEIR FACES JUST SHOWED IT ALL. Edit: @C.A.Anna I'm sure your friend would be heartened to have a friend such as yourself. If i win, donate the $40 to the Brain Cancer front. Thank you.
So many of these.... I gotta say, you are all so great, even the smallest thing helps and it's truly amazing how much you have all done. Also remember that you don't have to just go for Elite, or just for Charity, you can turn the Elite into a Donation and pick a Charity and get both, pretty much exactly what Irritatingness did. I can't wait to read more.
I'll enter for both. Ever since I was about 6 years old, everytime I would get money (either for my birthday, work, or christmas etc) I would donate a portion of whatever I got to a local charity and other times I would give it to people in need. The charity I will choose, is any charity that is for children with cancer.
So back in 2010 when I was 14 years old my best friend, who was 13 at the time, was diagnosed with brain cancer. This occurred just 2 weeks before her 14th birthday which was November 12. On February 23rd 2011, she passed away. Sadly they had not caught the cancer in time and although she had undergone serious treatment it had been to no avail. Brain cancer is one of the biggest killers for young people age between 12-20 and the fact that people do not know that is worrying. Despite the fact that it is a serious killer, not nearly enough money is going into research and even less is going toward therapy for young children who are diagnosed with said cancer. Cancer is a devastating thing to go through and even more so when it is such a serious one. It can be tough on the parents but even more so on the children which is why I see patient care as something just as important as research. Last year I heard about a fund called "The RCD Foundation". This foundation was created by a mother in Melbourne who had lost her son to brain cancer. She did this in his memory. I had always wanted to give back to charity/research in memory of my best friend and so when I heard this foundation was running a week called "Brain Week" I took it upon myself to organise for our school to be involved. The week of fundraising occurred 28th of April until the 4th of May. I was only able to fundraise on the 28th to the 2nd at the school as obviously there would be no chance to do so on the weekend, regardless of this fact, it was successful. It took me 3 weeks to organise for this one week. The girls in my year level were so very supportive of my notion and all offered to help out in some way. In the end I decided that bake sales were the way to go because when you go to an all girl school delicious chocolate treats and the likes sell like hot cakes. The girls in my year all offered to bake on certain nights so that each day there were new treats to sell. I sold them by myself at lunch times and each day was very successful. On the Friday when I counted the money I found out I had raised $684 AUD ($497.39 USD). This had been through bake sales alone. That and people had happily donated any loose change for no reason other than they wanted to help. Not only had that week been extremely emotional for me but it had been extremely rewarding. The funds that we had all raised that week had been donated to both research and to patient care, both things very close to my heart. This year, even though I am no longer a student at the school, I kept in contact with the student body and was able to help organise another fund raiser for this year's "Brain Week". They made a similar approach to how I did it, however they also did things like sausage sizzles and casual clothes on the Friday. This year they raised $800 AUD ($581.56 USD) for the fund. Something that went above and beyond my expectations. Now, if I were to win, having elite would be pretty cool, I'm not going to lie. However what would be even better would be to hear that some more progress had been made on the Brain Cancer front. With this being said I would love for you to donate $40 to a brain cancer charity of your choosing in the US. Any brain cancer charity works for me! Thanks so much for the giveaway Roz!
During summer break, I had to get some community service hours. Me and my friends decided it would be best to go to a shelter for the homeless and serve them food. When I arrived there I was a little scared as I would think they would steal some possession of mine as I've never talked to a homeless person or say a bum xD. What I found out was that all the people who were there were all very friendly! They all had stories to tell and share to everyone. All of them were just like us as we had similar problems to us. Engaging in conversation with some of them made me feel good as most of them were in debt, had no home at all, or simply just needed a friend to talk to. It was an experience I'll never forget! Yes, I am going for Elite
One particular memory that stood out strongly to me was when I went to the Higher Calling Conference for the first time as a Junior in high school. I wasn't exactly fond of any religion and during that time, I even kept speaking very negatively of it. Never giving anything a chance and putting religion down. However, my friends and family convinced me to go there. It's in San Diego and when I went there for 4 days 3 nights, I was shocked at the thousands of people attending. Below is a video of one of the songs that was sung. All those people from different schools, states, and even countries. That first night along with prayer, made me truly amazed and hyped up. It was also the first conference that made me break down emotionally because of all the shameful things I said to the people I care about. While I'm not fond of attending church, it convinced me to actually interact with my local church. I couldn't go last year due to financial difficulties, but I hopefully plan to attend again this year. I'm in for charity. Donate the money to the American Cancer Society.
Dunno if this counts, but this is my best guess. During seminar. (20 minutes between 2nd and 3rd hour). I usually tutor a kid with Algebra 1. I love math and it is fun to tutor him on the subject. I plan on being a teacher as my job in the future. Edit: If I win the donation. Forward the donation to Guilty's Foundation of choosing.
I remember when I was 8 or 9 years old, me and a group of friends litterally went door to door asking for canned food donations to donate to a local homeless shelter, If I win, give it to charity, Don't care which, pick your favorite.
Would like to enter for both elite and charity Edit: The Charity I'm currently in Key Club will be able to join NHS next year. What those two really are is centered around volunteer work and just all around helping the community. NHS is more leadership centered, but while in it during middle school, the volunteer work was a blast. It's an odd thing, but I just love helping people and volunteering to help a greater cause/orginization. My favorite memory of what we did was without a doubt when we volunteered at a food bank. What we did was just package the food and help the people get the food to their cars. It was honestly depressing the amount of people there, but they were at least able to get food for their family. I really just volunteering in general, it's probably why I love staffing so much
Entering for Elite Well near me there is a center that gives out dinner for the homeless and anyone who needs it. It was fun helping becuase the people respect you and need so much help and you are able to help them
