Hola Serious players! In my experience with Gmod, especially in a server as large as Serious is, I have witnessed way too many trolls and since I am not the most experienced with dealing with them, just wondering what you guys think is the best way to deal with them! I am very interested in your guys' methods xD
You've come to the right place! Being a former Co-leader of a TF2 gaming clan and now regular in the ever toxic Vanilla, I've dealt with all kinds of people, trolls, and whatever comes into your mind. I've been in the position of power and dealt with them, as well as a bystander and or "victim". I'll just say right now, firstly do not give a single shit about what they state about you or others. That's what they want you to do, is to give a shit. Secondly, once you're in that mindset and they start calling you names and or saying stuff about your loved ones just say "Yea, my mother is a *** guzzling whore. What about it" or "Yea, I'm the biggest queer you'll ever see. Why point out the obvious? What's so wrong with me having this title of praise?" Firstly, you don't care about what they're saying. Secondly, when you know you don't care and when you know what you're "admitting" to isn't true, it immediately turns off the most persistent of trolls. Lastly, the common community is smart enough to know you saying these things are obvious ploys to turn away the trolls, so any aftermath you think saying such things will cause won't actually happen. This won't work with Mic spammers (Which can be muted) and RDMers. People like Maul, R3sh, Pugrus, Fiefoe, and various staff see me deal with these trolls exactly like these scenarios in this way numerous times. They all know better as to what I am saying isn't actually nor should it deteriorate my dignity. If you want to come up with scenarios that may not be attackable using my current method, I can flesh out something similar to what I said to counter it. Just aim to deprive the troll in your own way.
Watch them, when they do something that is without a doubt traitorus shoot them in the face. When you die and they want to harass you alt+tab out into the forums and shoutbox until the next round.
Just say "Hey pal, go sit on a pine cone." Nah, just kidding.. Although it is funny xD. Or you can ignore it, now I was harassed by trolls a lot. So let's find another option. Call an admin. Calling an admin can help get the player punished and hopefully he will learn to stop. (Though 90% of the time they never will.) If all else fails, just try to use chat and avoid using the mic in general... or go to TAB and mute them, I recommend this.
Yeah I know of a way to deal with trolls, hold on, I've got it here somewhere....ah, here it is! Then you just... After that you can fire your finger rockets at them and stab em with your drill-tail, easy-peasy.
I've received my fair share of harassment on here since I'm a female gamer and all. The best thing to do is keep a level head and ignore it. I know it can be hard sometimes with all the sexist remarks and requests for nudes or for you to "suck their d*ck* as I've been victim of many a time, but feeding the trolls won't make it go away sadly. Muting them if they are saying things over mic is helpful until a member of the staff team can get on. Or you can even gather some evidence and file a report on the forums and they will be dealt with (that is always a good time). I hope this helps ^_^
I'd like to think of my method as making them starve. They look for people to come at them flustered and denying the insults.
What the fuck? People are fucking disgusting...... like people act so differently on the internet because they get to be anonymous.. It ain't right. If anyone is going to suck something, it is going to be the trolls.
Yeah, being a female definitely doesn't help the issues! The comments about that butt sex never get old to me xD
I totally agree that people are disgusting especially when they are on the internet. Sadly though it isn't going to change any time soon
Personally they do get old eventually. but that's just me. I mean sometimes you can take it but if it goes on for like hours on end with just different people doing it all the time, it can get old very quickly.....I mean I am talking from personal experience but I mean everyone is different ^_^
I personally let them dig themselves a hole. I can't tell you how many times I have been put down for just my display image being "That furry" or "Oh you like to F*** animals?" I just record it, bring it to staff, and now as a staff member I warn/ban them. One thing I have zero tolerance for is sexual harassment. I have that happen towards me and other players a lot and I come down hard on it. You know, you have those trolls that just make fun of you or mess around and you can ignore it. But once I hear those sexual comments come out to users or younger players is a big no-no and a red flag to me. All and all, doesn't bother me. Like I say at Verizon I work at and have a customer yelling at me-... "I know where you live and I can find out where you live if I wanted to."
I try to be extra nice to a troll, or bring out the true refinement! One of two things will happen if you do, the troll will change his attitude to a more positive or the second option, the troll gets angry and leaves. Killing by kindness. If things get too out of control, you can always record/screenshot it and staff can assist.
