I recently heard about Lucid Dreaming and I'm very intrested. I have a few questions tho.
    Is it real?

    Are there any cons?

Is it easy to learn? (If it is real)

Lucid dreams are real, and they're amazing. There aren't many cons other than waking yourself up due to excitement (realizing you're in complete control of your dream does get you a bit stirred up). It's pretty difficult to learn, but one way I've heard lets you do it is to go to sleep when you're not tired and basically lay still on your bed without moving for ~30 minutes, which forces you into some sleep mode.

It's real, and very possible. Some methods work for some people and some methods don't. Google around and try some. I've only had it happen a few times and I've given up making it normal thing because I can only very rarely make it happen. Good luck and sweet dreams!

I can't even have regular dreams, but the fact that someone can control their own dreams intrigues me.

There are a lot of techniques to make it happen, although the core of lucid dreaming is an intense self-awareness of your thought process, even while awake. It's amazing the problems that you can solve when you lucid dream, when you're really good at it.

I spend about a third of every night in a lucid dream, usually using that time to solve problems with whatever project I'm working on, or interpersonal issues.

Then I end up just giving everyone in the dream giant cans, and the whole thing breaks down after a while.

The main thing once you get into one is to relax, you'll wake up if you get too excited. Act like you're high and you'll be fine. Just be careful, sleep paralysis is a thing as well, and for me 7/10 times I get it was after a lucid dream.

Lucid dreaming is very real and very much possible, with enough practice you are able to slip into a lucid dream whenever you decide to go to sleep.
I myself have experienced a few and in that it's been nothing but a negative feeling but that's due to who I am, for most it's an exciting, new and amazing experience since you're basically "God", so to speak.
If you're interested there are quite a few methods readability available to test. One that I did for about a month was to:
Lay completely straight arms by your side and do not move at all for about 15-45min. This is ridiculously challenging, if you lose any amount of focus you must restart so this means no moving at all, no itching yourself, no thoughts and so forth.
I would recommend to try to induce a lucid dream at least once just for the experience.

  13. Most nights I'm either stuck in lucid dreaming or just have dreams that coincidentally don't progress until I consciously act in them. When it is intentional, I'm sure it is fun, but always being in control, or having the illusion of control, is kind of bothersome.

  14. i do this naturally without even trying i just go to sleep and control anything i want :D and wake up and laugh about the dream i made up.

I've tried to do this many times and I've only been successful once, but it is a great idea if you just need to get sleep and you're having troubles going to sleep

I lucid dream myself.. I do it quite a bit. Most of the time I dream that I have super powers..

This goes over a few facts on lucid dreaming.

Basically you can control your dreams.. Like you can build in minecraft.. You can think "Give me 1 million dollars" - and you'll get it. It's pretty fun, but you can get sad that it isn't real, you might even be so enthusiastic and try to repeat stuff in real life.

You know it is fake though, and you know you're dreaming, yet some people can be confused while doing it. I'm not expert on it, but if you do happen to do it a few times, you'll know what I mean. ;);):)

I remember one time while lucid dreaming I was trying to see how accurate the details were (like if I looked closely at something with fine details, if it would look real or not), and was completely surprised by how believably real everything looked. It's really quite fascinating. Essentially, if done right, you have an entire world for your own creation and use. Flying, sex, whatever else... All possible. Have never experienced it on purpose (through methods mentioned like lying on your back not moving for 30 minutes), but experienced it multiple times years ago.

For me personally, my lucid dreams started by me experiencing sleep paralysis (if you're unfamiliar, research it as it's closely related to lucid dreaming) after a heavy night of drug use that had left my brain extremely low on serotonin and completely exhausted and needing sleep (perfect circumstance for sleep paralysis). After that one experience, I started experiencing it quite frequently, and eventually started experiencing lucid dreaming. All though, I haven't experienced both in about a year or more. Been trying to experience it recently, sleep paralysis in particular, but have had no real luck, which I can mostly attribute to drug use, or not being in a sober state of mind while trying to evoke lucid dreaming (which, supposedly makes quite a difference). Will try sober sometime. Not so interested in the lucid dreaming, just kind of want the sleep paralysis.

    Some advice:

Throughout your day continually ask yourself "Am I dreaming?" and for the first few seconds try to convince yourself that you are in a dream, and find ways to completely convince yourself that you're not dreaming (i.e. flicking light switches on and off, for some people). This will help establish a routine in your mind, if one often and for a while, for your brain to keep checking to see if you're dreaming, and eventually (hopefully), your brain will do the same thing while you're asleep, allowing you to realize that you're in a dream, and evoke lucid dreaming. I have a friend who just puts notes around his house saying "are you dreaming?", instead of asking himself.

Although I mentioned that it started happening to me after a particular night of heavy drug usage, I would not recommend such a thing to anyone, at all. It's really the kind of thing that nightmares are made of, and you'll most likely just be getting intense, horrible sleep paralysis instead of lucid dreams. That being said, there are some safe, legal drugs which for some people can actually help out a lot when trying to lucid dream. Do some research on 5HTP and Melatonin in relation to lucid dreaming, if you're interested. Both are safe and natural.

I really wish I was still getting it as frequently as I used to, and have been trying to lately so seeing this thread was a nice reminder to keep at it. There's really just so many possibilities available, and I feel really stupid for using those possibilities to have sex and fly around. Right now I want to try to play piano in a lucid dream, look in a mirror (supposedly it's horrifying), and since I will be so deep in my subconscious mind, while retaining my conscious mind, try to explore repressed issues I have and find solutions to them, as well as understand how to sustain certain aspects of what makes me happy in life (haha, silly, I know, but it's worth a shot). The subconscious mind is a very important and powerful thing, and harnessing its full potential is something I'm incredibly interested in.

You should check out the movie Waking Life, pretty sure it's free online. All about lucid dreaming, and ideology.

    The movie sounds cool :)

I agree with you on most of your points esp your reference to lucid dreaming involving drug use. Whilst neither judging anyone's experience/freedom of choice, I do NOT advocate drug use/abuse (due to my colourful past) as you said, it's the stuff of nightmares. Not cool.

Also, as a former poster mentioned, lucid dreaming helps problem solve - and yes, it's fun (esp flying!!) However, it's also useful to tap into your psyche - helps one become more 'mindful' (psych term)

With regards to 5HTP or Melatonin - whilst both good and natural health products, I would advise against avid use - as with anything, the body develops a dependancy. I realise it is necessary for some of course, however, a healthy diet and a lot of exercise REALLY goes a long way (just speaking from experience here)
