The !motd says that prop surfing to unreachable areas is a general rule. Now i was just playing with a bunch of people that were in an unreachable area but they didn't prop surf to get there. They had a T or proved innocent (i don't know which one) shoot them on top of a building with the newton launcher. Is this really allowed?
This is a good question, I don't really know what the answer to that would be. I would guess that it's probably not allowed if they are getting to unreachable areas using that technique. Would like to hear what a staff member says though to be certain of the answer to it.
Well you see, two staff members were doing this technique. (Shades and RB | Event Horizon) Shades said that you weren't allowed to get to unreachable places while prop surfing, any other method is legal i guess? I believe that he is wrong but i wouldn't know.
I'll be honest, I would expect more from fellow moderators. Sometimes it can be okay, if it's reachable, but if it isn't reachable then it's not okay.
Well if you want to get technical, it says nothing about using a Newton Launcher to get to unreachable places, so there's that. However, I do believe getting to "unreachable areas" should not be allowed by any means. Will-e had a Newton Launcher and randomly decided to shoot someone over to the top of the barn roof on 67th way. Then we all got in line and decided to get launched there as well. I didn't think much of it because it's not specifically stated in the rules. Nevertheless, I was up there maybe 5 seconds before I jumped off because I wanted to go kill traitors. After I died a bit later, Will-e (the traitor who launched us up there, we thought he was innocent) Jihaded the other 4 people still up there. Again, the rules only say no prop surfing to unreachable areas, so technically we didn't break any established rules.
He launched 10+ people into the area really, also it was ontop of the barn so I suppose It's a bit unreachable, but you can discombob yourself up there also. However I don't see that it's not allowed since you can always kill the people by going on the house aside from it. I wasn't thinking about that breaking a rule at the time, it wasn't propsurf like on rooftops. It's not exactly a cheap area either.
Going off what you said, how come you don't let people get on the roof on assualt when you clearly don't need any props to get there?
I did, They still would go even If I tped them back. The only time I tped someone was when They jumped on the sign and launched themself on top of the thing.
this is a topic I have been bickering about for centuries. Going to an unreachable place is the same as anywhere you cannot go by means of running/ jumping/ etc. but anywhere you prop surf, whether it be 4 feet off the ground, is unreachable technically. I know in terminal I was slain once for stacking props and jumping onto the gift shop and out of the map. it wasn't prop surfing but yet against the rules. the same thing should go for the roof top on CS Assault that only a select few know how to get to. The rule needs to be changed to no irregular parts of the map that can be reached by questionable methods. It messes with the gameplay and aggravates those who cannot get there or get killed by those in the position. I love prop surfing and exploiting any and all parts of the map, but for the sake of simplicity I think it needs to be capped
I hope you realize that the one area on cs_assault you can get to isn't against the rules. You shouldn't be TP'ing anyone away from there. As for the general topic, the rule could be changed. It generally means you aren't allowed in a place normally unreachable. And by that, anything normally unreachable is somewhere that would require props to get to. Anywhere you can get by jumping(no matter how hard) is generally allowed.
I dont remember which admin it was but a while ago they told me to tp people from there. I dont do it anymore unless they are using it as an advantage since people now consider it correct.
Personally, I always favored the idea that an "unreachable area" was someplace you could not get unless you climbed a ladder or a set of stairs. As for stacking props to get somewhere, so long as the person doesn't turn around and destroy any breakable props they used to climb up there to keep anyone from getting to them, and you are not able to get out of the map from where you climbed up to, then it is fine. I get that you can get on top of the building on cs_assault by hopping along the edge next to the fence, but I see being up there as being out of the map because the textures for the raised part of the building do not go all the way around it and you could technically hid behind it and still be able to see through it and kill people. The only way people can kill anyone hiding behind it is if they know exactly where the person is at behind the wall and aim there.
Can you actually shoot through that? Because I can almost guarantee you its still a wall, but it has the NoDraw texture, (no texture assigned so therefore see-through) But yes that is a bit dumb, you cant see names through it however
The best way to take out someone up there is to throw a well placed frag, or just spam frags until he dies, that's what I do. It's a fun and effective way to kill people in hard to reach areas, just don't fail a frag throw and kill an innocent or your T buddy ;]
On a related note, you all should have seen this frag triple kill I made one day on Nipperhouse. There were 3 people camping the sleigh and I timed a grenade so it would explode when it reached the altitude of the sleigh, and it went perfect. I took a bit of damage from it since it exploded a bit low, but it killed all 3 up in the sleigh
ALRIGHT SO, CS_ASSAULT I was on the roof, the one that you have to do fancy hops for. A player boosted me onto the small staircase(?) box so I could walk on it and onto the top of the fence (the one that people jump across the side of). Admin Tp'd me off for reason 'unreachable'. Is this Justified or no? I could still be shot from on top of the fence. -330 hours, only really new to the fourms. -JOHNNY
