Hi. A few minutes ago, I was slain by Admin Caswell for throwing a grenade (as a T), and having the grenade explode, killing a T buddy who entered the firefight. Again, I stress this was a firefight as I had just killed a detective near innos. I was reported by the T buddy for having killed him. While I understand the rule of having to announce when you're about to throw a grenade, I feel that the slay was unjust for two reasons. One being that this was during a firefight and having to cover my tracks, there is absolutely no time to call that you're throwing a grenade. This is basically the same thing as friendly fire (killing a fellow T buddy) during a firefight. Both situations should never lead to a slay. Second, the rule for announcing throwing nades is to protect T buddies from running into nade explosions. While such a rule is necessary, it is geared towards other situations, just as clearing a room of AFK's.

I had explained to Caswell the situation yet he chose to go along with the slay because it's "part of the rules". I even asked for a second opinion, and there was indeed another admin present (The Law), which was denied. How would other admins proceed?

The problem here is that you failed to warn about your grenade being thrown, which led to your buddy being killed. Even if your traitor buddy is still in a firefight, you must always warn around 5 seconds prior to the event when following weapons are used: Jihads, Frag Grenades, Incendiary Grenades, Discombobulators, etc (note: this does not include all the situations that would require warnings. This only covers the main basics). This is because there's always that small chance that those weapons can end up killing your buddies and with a warning, they are aware of the situation and can avoid a bad outcome for the most part.

Considering that you failed to warn about the grenade, you caused the death of one of your fellow traitor buddies. If you refer to the extended rules of the server, you would understand that a warning being given reduces the likelihood of you killing your traitor buddy. Even if you intend to kill multiple players (including your buddy) without warning with it, the fact that you did not warn the buddy is enough reason to have you slain since you took away his traitor round. This is why you were slain.

Let's talk about your justifications though:
    1) There is still no excuse for you not to be able to warn even if you're in a firefight. Considering you have the option to make console binds to give out warnings to your buddies that you're going to be committing an action that could potentially kill a traitor buddy and/or use your traitor chat mic.

    2) The rule is always active. It doesn't matter even if you are planning to kill a room of AFKs in the vicinity. If you fail to warn your buddies and you end up killing them, then you are held responsible for ruining their rounds and you would be slain for it appropriately. Had it been done normally with a warning, then even if your buddies were killed, they were warned about the whole situation and hence, you would not be slain.

Caswell was right in his decision making considering you neglected to warn your buddies and caused the death of one of them. You are held responsible for that act and Caswell slayed you for it.

Whenever you are throwing a frag grenade, incen, or jihading, it is in your best interest to warn everytime to avoid slays. The best way to do this would be to set up a bind in console such as follows:

    Code:
bind b "say_team I am throwing an explosive or Jihading, move!"

This way, you can just press this key a couple times before you preform the action and you will be covered as far as slays go.

As you understand already, you were slain because you did not inform a comrade of an action that was potentially dangerous to him and ended up killing him.
Caswell being a Moderator, slayed you appropriately in this situation as he would not be allowed to take in any other variables than that you did not warn. Moderators are required to strictly follow our MOTD unless given permission not to by an administrator. If an admin were to be on and see the situation unfold, perhaps a different outcome regarding your slay could have been reached.

I would advise you in the future to warn for your explosives, as there is no way to determine somebody is going to be using one unless told so by the person himself.

Between you and me, it doesn't matter who you kill as a traitor as long as you warn. So create a text bind or yell out over voice just before you throw it. Then you can be sure that you warned and not have to worry about getting slain.
