Serious TTT Chocolate - New server concept

Hello lovelies.
I've been considering this idea for a little while now, and I figured what better way to get everyone's opinion on the matter than to make an official thread about it. An entire new server..

We all know that Vanilla was somewhat out of the ordinary for STTT, a step out of bounds. Why not continue this tradition with a new, premium server. A server for our donators, our VIP's, our VIP+'s. Giving back to them, as they've given to us and allowed this community to keep it's golden chocolate standard.. That of course, not without it's fringe benefits.​

• Gives donators a calmer location to play, with less likeliness of RDM, hacking, and general mischief.
• Requires less staff up-keep than a standard server for the above reasons.
• Creates higher incentive for players to donate.
• Boost player moral and multiply this incentive by increasing the amount of fun rounds, and therefore decrease likeliness of AFKing/point farming and increase activity. Or we could simply increase the playtime point rewards, but that doesn't sound as fun.
• Due to less popularity, we can decrease Chocolate's servers player slots to decrease and conserve server power costs.
• To reduce the need for staff even more, we can implement an exclusive vote system. This could include but is not limited to 'vote karma-ban', 'vote slay', 'vote ban/kick', and etc. Considering the tightness of our community and donators, abuse of this can be swiftly and easily handled.

While the concept sounds nice, the execution would be difficult.

Pretty sure that you would need a password for the donators if you're making a server that is reserved for donators only. What if that password gets leaked? You would have to let everyone know about the password. The cycle would continue and would just cause more trouble than what it's worth. After all, some of our player base can have some..... faulty pipes for what you know. If you can think of something that can stop this major problem or reduce any chance of possible leaks, then I'm all in.

 

Make it clear that if someone joins it without being a VIP then will be banned on the spot and whoever leaked should be stripped of his/her rank?

 

Why would you need a password? Write some lua code to check donor rank and if it exists, don't kick from the server.

Well then, that was silly. I was thinking of the perspective of a regular player and forgetting about Lua coding.

 

Check what Event said. Donators are already filtered in many ways.

Yep, exactly what Event said. We're by no means the first people to think of this, whitelists. Very popular in Minecraft in-particular. There may even be a way to prevent the player from joining, but if not; automatically kicking works just the same. The SQL databases that we need already exist! Especially considering that all donators are required to link their Steam accounts on the forums, it increases the defense of this being in any way abused.

+1 Great idea, even though i'm just a ordinary player. it would bring all the Contributor to a whole new level, instead of chocolate, i would prefer it to be named Gold STTT server.

 

+1, i'd also love to see this server used to test ideas before putting them right out to community.

For example you could test a map on Chocolate for 3-4 days, get feedback and see if it would work on the regular servers, same with guns.

 

And here I am sitting thinking how lonely I'll be... (All me friends on the sever are Donators/VIP/VIP+)

-1. Even rule breakers have the option to donate if they have the means. This would just be like a normal server restricted to players that payed toward it. There would be rule breakers; RDMers, hackers, etc. It would require the same staff upkeep as the rest of the servers; and those can't be fully staffed with the current staff members. Even though the players that are active on this post are the good batch, there is still around the same ratio of rule breakers to non rule breakers.

Let me also add that the server already does give back to donors. You get items such as custom skins, jihads, pointshop discounts and you spawn with a loadout. The normal servers are already set up to reward donors.
