Why you should be unbanned:

I was banned for Ghosting and I believe it may be in the servers best interest to allow me to continue moderating on the vanilla server.​

Evidence of Innocence:

Well I am not Innocent but I can explain.
So I was looking through the logs looking for subtle RDM and found that someone pushed another person for 400 damage, I did the normal procedure and then found that it was RDM.
I put on the slay and the person asked why they were being slayed so I private messaged him the Player A(traitor) was killed by Player B(innocent) for 400 damage. As soon as a I sent that I realized that Player A may not have been ided yet so I pressed Tab to find that Player A was missing in action. At the end of the round I asked Player B if he knew that Player A was dead and he did not in till I told him. After this I banned myself for Ghosting.​

This is why I told you to wait until both players are dead when issuing punishments.

 

This ban appeal should be taken care of by @Carned.

 

If Player B had killed Player A, then wouldn't Player B already know that he killed him? Though it may be possible to not know, I don't know how someone could be oblivious to who it was that they had just killed, especially when they were pushed.

Also, I don't usually send anyone the logs unless they ask. If they as me why they are being slain, I tell them what they did. In this case, if they asked me, I would say that they pushed someone and killed them without telling them who it was.

If I were an admin, I'd at least reduce the ban since it wasn't intentional ghosting; after all, you were simply just doing your job. Sadly, I don't think whether this appeal should be approved is my call to make, so let's wait for an admin or higher to respond.

 

That is why I usually say something along the lines of "You killed someone for 400 damage by pushing them." This way it doesn't give them any info about who they killed, only that they did it.

Try to remember that you are out to enforce the rules and not break them.
There were many away you could get around this by just letting the player know he killed someone, you didn't have to use name whilst he was alive.

You can moderate the other servers in the mean time and be more careful next time, you're walking on very thin ice.

 

If possible, I would like @Highwon to give his input on this, since I've done this before (Issuing slays while round's still in progress), and I've seen many other staff do it too. If it's a ban-nable offense, I need a 4 week global.

I realize ideally we should wait for the round to end before doing all the slays/bans etc but there are circumstances where staff have taken action before that.

Examples:

Some guy RDMs 3 ppl and gets killed. A staff who's dead/spectating proceeds to ban him for RDM 3+. At this point the dead bodies of said player/the 3 players he killed may or may not be IDed. Technically ghosting? Yes. Should we then ban the staff for 4 weeks.....?

Guy throws a discombob, kills 2 innos, another player kills him for throwing discombob, he's inno. 2 innos report him, he reports guy who kills him. Mod goes through all this, issues 2 slays to the guy who threw the discombob. One of the bodies of the players he killed is not IDed. Again, technically ghosting.

Mod logs on, no other staff, sees a bunch of reports piled up, starts going through logs to handle them. Gets to latest ones, maybe doesn't realize its for a round still in progress, hands out slays for players still alive.


Darth probably could have just told the player "you killed someone by pushing them/fall damage", but we've typically been encouraged to provide log evidence just to prevent any "bullshit no I didn't" arguments. When people ask me "who'd I kill then" or go "bullshit I didn't hit him" I typically just copy pasta the line to them in pm.

 

He wasn't banned for punishing himself mid round. He was banned for letting a player know that he killed someone who was not confirmed dead and a traitor.

I told him he should wait until both players are dead before issuing punishments to avoid this situation.
