Answered Is This RDM?

OK, so I was playing on West 2. I held down tab to see how many people were left alive. I saw me, mtndewbunney, and Event Horizon (who I'm 99% sure was a DT). I called a live check, and only mtndewbunney responded. I was confused, and asked Event Horizon if he was still alive. No response. I turn around, and see mtndewbunney. I shoot him in the head, innocents win. Several people flipped out. I don't think I did anything wrong, but I want to hear your opinions on this.

 

Could you PROVE the fact that Event Horizon was dead? Did you really have any other evidence but the fact that he didn't respond to an optional live check? That's killing on suspicion in my opinion. Some people don't hear audio from mics or read chat, so you can't hold them liable for not answering a live check.

 

This is actually a bit of a gray area. If Event Horizon was talking a fair amount during the round and suddenly goes quiet, it could be a sign that he is dead. Doing a live check is not always an efficient way to determine this however because there are times where traitors will intentionally not respond to the live check if people have not seen them for a while so that they might get the innocents/detectives to think they are dead and hidden somewhere. The server has a rule against killing anyone who doesn't respond to a live check, so the above strategy gets used fairly often.

I would say, based on the info you provided that it would be killing on suspicion as Event Horizon could have been remaining silent to avoid detection and you didn't have enough evidence to prove he was really dead.

 

He was talking just 30 seconds beforehand, and you know something's wrong if a DT doesn't respond to a livecheck.....

 

What if he alt tabbed for a second? What if he went to go get a glass of water? What if his cat jumped onto his keyboard and he took a few seconds to pet it? There is too many scenarios in which Event could not respond to a live check.

 

Event didn't slay me for it.... I'm on West 2 right now, though. I'll take a slay if need be.

 

That's up to Event. If he believed you did nothing wrong, I have no power to say you did something wrong.

 

By DT, do you mean detective? If so and it was just you, Event, and mtndewbunney showing up in the active players list in the tab screen, then it is not rdm as it is process of elimination.

Yes, this is RDM. Players AFK all the time randomly, therefore the Generalization of the rule that prevents you from killing based on live checks kicks in over logic.
This is a borderline situation between both logical and legal, but the legal rule wins in this situation. So, again, yes, this is RDM, haha.

You were in every right to kill him if that was the case.

 

I still don't understand whether he(Event Horizon) was a detective or not. He(teadawg1337) says he was 99% sure...

If Event was a Detective for sure, then yeah your kill would have been justified.

 

You can never kill anyone based on responses to a live check. You can use a live check to gain information and mark someone as suspicious, but it is never grounds to kill someone.

However, if it was just the 3 of you on the scoreboard and Event was a detective, you can kill the third person, as it has to be him (with no live check involved). You know that you are an innocent, and that the other person is a detective, so it must be the remaining person alive. This is only in the case that there are 3 people showing on the tab menu, and one is a detective (or 2 detectives and 4 people shown as alive, etc).

When I looked, I saw that his name had a blue background. However, someone later argued that he wasn't a detective. That's why I say I'm 99% sure. Event was talking the whole round, but didn't respond to a live check after about 30 seconds. I deduced that he was dead, and shot the third guy in the head. However, I'll still accept a slay.

 

I believe people who are Ds don't show up on the tab menu as a D if someone was in spectate mode. If he had a blue background, of course he was a D. It could be that said player's game didn't register Event as a D.

 

If @Event Horizon was a detective and everyone was confirmed dead except two other people, it's not RDM.

 

Everyone but me was confirmed dead. Therefore, there were only two other players, plus me, shown alive. Teadawg did not RDM, or I would have slain him for killing on suspicion.

 

So you're saying you were a detective for sure, right?
