Same happens when mods leave vanilla. With mod 10-ish reports, without for 2 minutes and we get on a server with 20+ reports at least and people saying shhh, mod is here. The problem from my perspective with the modded servers: New people need to get on with CSS installed. We need to put in a lot of time and effort to get those poeple to play on that server and to download extra content of a game they already bought. Most of the players don't want to listen to the mods because we have a "police cap"on our head. So we also need the regulars to step up if we want to fight for the survival of the modded servers.
Mods advert all the time for people to join them in modded servers and no one really ever joins, it gets like a max of 10-15 players maybe here and there then shortly dies. The problem is that the modded servers just need updating and re-adjustments.
that's not the problem, certainly wouldn't explain why years ago we could fill 4 modded servers without a problem, and the servers have been updated constantly since then if there is a problem, it's community-sided
It is community sided but not in the way you think it is o.o Most of the old community regulars have simply moved on, either because they got bored of the game itself, or just simply because they wanted to spend their time playing newer or different games. And majority of the newer players we get may be new to the game or the gamemoded in general, and therefor play on Vanilla where they dont have to worry about texture issues or additional content. Not many of the new players will start out loving the Modded servers, modded is something you grow to love when you get tired of Vanilla and seek to play TTT a different way than what the vanilla servers allow you to. Gmod is an old game and therefor it isnt unnatural to loose playerbase overtime. Doesnt have anything to do with quality of staff, The staff could have "The amazing quality, that your personal opinion, believe to be perfect" but it wont change the state of the direction gmod itself is going. And it definetely wont change when and how often the servers are populated. Years can change a lot, just think about all the awesome games that have come out within the past 4 years. or if you think about the CoD-Franchise, if you were to go back and play Black ops 2, there is just way less players that plays it, due to the newer games taking the playerbase from the former games. And if you were to go in the direction of newer games that are ment to be social interaction and Sandbox games, that easily has taken over playerbase from Gmod, something like Vr-Chat would show up, heck maybe even Roblox or Fortnite, because those games are directed at a younger audience, and those games didnt exist when most of the SGM community started playing Gmod, back then Gmod was one of the few sandbox games that attracted the younger gaming audience. I have played gmod for a long time, I would assume 8 years o.o and Im just fond of it, its my go to game, whenever Im unsure of what else to play c:
Idk, I started out playing modded. Plenty of others have too. I don't really see a point here. Except when you look at game stats, the amount of players have stayed relatively consistent throughout the years. So this is just false. You're blaming an external factor, that isn't even true, for why your community is failing. Weak shit. There is no "GMod 2" so again, I don't see your point. Fortnite is not a sandbox game, and Roblox is clearly not the in the same demographic as GMod, and came out only 2 years after, so I fail to see how these games have "easily taken over playerbase from Gmod". ok? idk why yall are rating his post a winner, he didn't say anything even remotely valid lmfao
Personally I feel some questionable people became staff, all have gotten a lot better from what I've seen. But yeah, it's been like at least four months since the last admin promotion of someone. When we used to give someone admin within two months of them becoming a mod.
???? Roblox has and has had people of all ages playing it, as well as features pretty much any gamemode Gmod has (for free at that)
Yeah roblox and gmod both have their own advantages and disadvantages. It's pretty ignorant to say roblox is JUST for kids
Roblox came out in 2006 and gmod came out in 2004. There is no possible way that in 2020, roblox is beginning to migrate players from gmod lol Yall are getting worked up about the fact I said roblox is for kids (which it is, they don't let you say slurs last I checked), ignoring the point. Picking and choosing what you want to hear doesn't make it less true.
god you're such a fucking nOOb if you put hashtags and parentheses around the word you get to say them! god....adults are stupid!!!
Im confused. I thought this was supposed to be about the amount of staff/quality of staff. Do you guys want the community to be shut down or you wanna be grateful for the server(s) keeping it up rn? EDIT: Yes it would be great if we could populate the other servers. If you have any ideas on that, feel free to post it. But we cant just magically fill the servers with people with one little switch. It takes effort. You see us constantly trying to repop east and west. If we knew the things or changes that would bring them back to their glory days, we would do it. We are trying.
Its pretty simple o.o Media. Back in the days we would have a good amount of youtubers making gmod gameplay videos, those videos would catch the interest of the younger gamers back then, who would be attracted to play it as well out if interest. But nowadays there barely are made gmod youtube videos anymore. Even if Roblox came out 2 years after, Roblox, Fortnite, Vr-chat took over a portion of the media. Both on youtube and on Twitch, which means that the young new players we seek, has a more likely chance to peak interest on the other games, instead of gmod. At which point, gmod gets too few new faces into the game, meanwhile they gradually loose more and more players. Over interest o.o You knew cs Source was a thing, 4 years ago, so did I. But the point is not you and me the old players, the point is the new ones, a large portion of new players doesnt even know what cs:source is, so why would those people start out with modded? If you honestly think that statistics will show that gmod has as many players as it had 4 years ago, and you believe it, thats fair, thats what you believe. But any person who have been actively playing for the past 4 years can tell that aint it chief. Its not just SGM loosing players, every gmod community have lost players, several communities have shut down as well, because they couldnt keep up with the direction the game was going o.o
I don't think the staff team are the specific issue with the servers, though I can understand and agree with the idea that they can be dispersed more between the servers in an attempt to repopulate them. In general Gmod has dipped from 30k to around 25k average players. Link . While it might seem minor, its still quite significant. In more recent years Gmod has seen a further swing towards Darkrp servers. There just simply isn't all that many populated TTT Servers. Vanilla is currently the 2nd highest ranked server on gametracker with "TTT" in its the server name (2 ranks behind the 1st). Despite this it is ranked as 139th. Link Alternative servers use methods which we do not and as such get ranked higher. For example, if you look on the server browser right now it gets sorted by "ranking". A large contribution to the ranking is the ping to the server. As such servers which utilized methods to spoof ping will appear at the top of the list. Sure other factors exist such as media or other games but the effect of those should be limited for a game which has been established for such a long time.
I was with you with a repop a few days ago! We got 12+ people on. That's more than any time it has no mods, and after mods leave there is practically nobody but trolls. Edit: Like, legit, Modded goes to absolute shit when mods aren't on. Vanilla has issues, but Modded is just absolutely cancerous. It shouldn't be underestimated exactly how unappealing Modded becomes to people when every time they go and staff aren't around, it's overwhelmingly a shitty experience. Consistent staff would be one of the best ways to get Modded back-in-action.
