I'm much more of a fan of this 'political compass' because political ideologies are hard to graph on two dimensions. It's much easier to say "I'm a Libertarian" rather than "on the political spectrum graph, I'm eight notches to the right and one down". Most people are inconsistent with what their political ideology is so trying to chart it is often a fool's game. Still fun to do though.
I've always understood it to be the movement to appeal to 'ordinary people' ie the general populace, usually done by pointing out or creating differences between the established elites and parties.. so yes, what you said but those parties are aimed at the general populace
Spoiler: mine and a note Spoiler: note It's always important to understand what you're beliefs are, but that shouldn't mean you can't listen and consider ideas that oppose your own. Otherwise, you're stuck in an echo chamber where nothing gets done. Kind of like the current state of the U.S. Government also be kind to everyone no matter their political stance, we need it atm
"Does Power corrupt, or do the Corrupt seek power" asks the boy who dreams of being president. In my view: Capitalism makes the world better. Hot take, I know. The idea that one person can create something everyone wants. Therefore, both the creator and the world benefits off of a product or service. This idea has the ability to progress civilization beyond it's previous potentials, and moves us forward. Capitalism is much like a Democracy, where your vote for the best product is how you spend your dollars. The one who gets the most votes wins. Again, I realize all of it's shortcomings and faults. Addressing them would make this post WAY more lengthy that it already is. I find it disturbingly ignorant to suggest Economic and Social issues are one, as it makes me look like an asshole when it comes to equality/social issues when I suggest economically right policies. Therefore, I will be posting only my 8values even though it faces the same problem only in a smaller fraction. Humanity is best working together. I believe the closer we get to having one united globe the better. I get the idea of borders, the fact that societies grow different based off of location (ex; Eastern Roman Empire, United States) however we can't let that stop us. The United Nations is the closest we've ever come to Globalization and I'm proud of it. However, it needs more power than the joke power it has. I have semi-contradictory opinions on Authority and Liberty. I like the idea of Mass Surveillance, but I'm also not ignorant to it's misuse by the government and the ability of power to oppress millions. I'm a huge ass fan of personal freedoms and self-expression, as I believe life should be a colorful musical and everyone should break into song sometimes. Terry hates Traditionalism. Traditions are just peer pressure from dead people. When I say I hate traditionalism, I don't mean Christmas. Christmas is dope and it's better left without the religious angle. When I say traditions, I mean political "keeping it the same" ideologies. I believe everything needs to change at one point, if the world keeps progressing so should our rules. The same people who preach traditionalism are the same people who believe in Natural Selection which is literally anti-traditionalism. When looking at my ideology, I picture my ideal world. Therefore, my political thoughts are wild yet true. Tend to not look to the world around me, as we're existing in an imperfect society and therefore it would result in mostly nitpicking things. If I were to do that however, here's some stuff I'd change right now: Senators must wear capes when doing Senatorial activities. They must look lavish at all times. Pasta must be accessible to everyone. Fast Food options must be available without taste sacrifice. Pictures at the DMV can be retaken to look good. We got these for 8+ years, we need to look great. MTV plays music 24/7 again. Exception is Wildin' Out, that show is great. Blue Jeans are banned. They look and feel like trash, nobody* actually likes them. Anyway, here's my infamously cursed 8values: Holy fuck, why did I write all of this. Anyway, I deleted like 80% of it so it would've been way longer. Spoiler: My Polticial Compass if you're so invested in this shit that I'm invested in Though appearing centrist leaning authoritarian, it's only because my socially left ideals are tethered with my economically right ideas. Being on the same axis created the illusion of me being a dirty centrist. I deal in absolutes. I love Politics (little brain) > I love Debating Ideas > I love explaining my Ideas > I love my ego (big brain) "and if I don't see you: good afternoon, good evening and good night."
I have the same graph as This is @Pacifist 's chart, but it's the exact same as mine was when I took this one on my phone. Weirdly I am skewed farther left on the 8values test than I am on politicalcompass @Lordyhgm I think the problem with 8values is the labeling, because if you chart your values it comes to almost the exact same plot as your politicalcompass graph.
Wow, its like everyone is just the same NPC copy pasted with a slight variance Heres mine: I dislike 8values, the questions aren't great. Politiscales is better imo:
