SeriousTTT on Android

I was thinking of making a STTT server list app for Android with a few possible features to start out with. These would include filters to select a server and see who's on and their score and ping, show all servers, display the banlist and autorefresh functions for both the server list and ban list and possibly even a mobile compatible version of the forums, with compatibility in mind, for smaller, phone screens and larger, tablet screens. The settings would include the autorefresh rate and a few display options. A 0.99 cent version would be available with no ads and a few extra perks such as a lower limit on auto refresh, more settings/options and whatever else.

I don't know, it's just an idea that'd be cool to help mods and stuff when they go mobile. Since multiple mods and admins told me that I'm too immature and can't prove that I can be trusted to be a mod, to become a developer, this application may never become a thing.

If you like this idea, feel free to leave a +1 and tell me what other feature and setting ideas you have for the app. An iOS version would be a possibility, too if this becomes a reality.

All staff and trusted players should get the .99 cents one for free, also you would need a server hosted somewhere to relay the information to all of the apps.

What purpose would this serve though? sure you can see the servers list on you phone. cool. but what is that bringing to our community? post people if they were away from the computer wouldn't check the server list/ban list. though if you had the forum on your phone i could see how that could be useful in a way. but its seems a but odd im not saying this isnt a good idea i just dont know how it would be used.

This website already has a mobile version. Simply visit it from your smart device and you will be on a mobile version of the serious TTT website. If you want to chat with players in game, download the Steam app for your respective mobile OS (sorry Windows phone users).

I can get a server, no problem. At first, nobody but developers and Highwon, if he has an Android phone) would get the app for free, and then probably lead admins and admins.

We don't need this. I could make a mobile online version that does the same stuff in under a quarter of the time it'd take to develop an app. It just doesn't seem ethical.

If you have a server why not make a mobile site?

Also, the external source protocol doesn't let you see pings. At least not from what I could see.

Well would it have all the functionality, made especially for mobile devices? Do you know how to fix CSS for mobile devices so text doesn't randomly appear bigger than the header text and smaller where it needs to be bigger?

Not a developer. Don't think I have access to any of the server stuff. I could do some research to see if I can find a way to display ping.

Any app would have to do so externally, we don't want serverside scripts running that further bog down the server.

I understand that and pretty much figured that, but how would I access any of the MySQL databases to make something that displays them fancily if I can't possibly access them? I need to know the table names and whatever else you use to create your servercheck.php thing.

Erm, what kind of phone do you have/what web browser? On my iPhone 5S, everything on the website works amazingly well and is perfectly fitted. Haven't found a single problem yet, even with using the shoutbox which is an amazing feat. Which in-turn makes an application completely useless. If it's something as simple as text not sizing correclty at places, it's probably just a line or three of code somewhere that's a bit off when it translates to your mobile browser's format.

Not to mention, it'd take an insane amount of work in attempt to get it to function. You would literally have to redesign the entire website and have it running on a mobile. sub-domain, unless of course you just have the entire app be a web browser; but at that point you'd save far more time and effort by just creating a shortcut on your phone to the website at that point.

    This was also rather unnecessary.

I use a Samsung Galaxy SII Skyrocket and every browser I've used, seems to have random CSS problems. I also had a more obscure phone, the Sony Xperia Play with Chrome and even that has some problems.

With that last sentence, I'm just making a point that multiple people already are against me and can't trust me, but I have amazing ideas for this community and nothing will ever get done if people don't leave the past in the past.

Could you perhaps document the CSS problems instead? Not saying you have to dig through any code, but take pictures and post in a separate 'website problems' thread of where you're having these issues so they can be dug out and fixed. It seems rather than having a separate mobile version of the site, the site (like most) smart-changes itself based on the resolution. So any issues with CSS is probably just that 'X' mobile web browsers don't support said code or handle it in a different manner, and should be an easy/common fix as such.

This is far simpler, easier, faster, and more likely to reach your goal of a working mobile website than making an entire new application. Rewriting the entire forum and pushing every event (from posts to a message in the shoutbox) to a separate mobile version of the site is just too complicated and requires far more work than for someone to just 'up' and do it. (Even if it was hosting under the SeriousTTT domain, it would need to be a different version and do everything said above to be any different than what the website already does.) Creating an application where it features the website via a web browser would be the exact same as you trying to reach the site normally, just far more cluttered.

My servercheck.php doesn't touch any tables. It get's the server information via SourceQuery and get's the donator info via a json file.

Now we're getting somewhere. Where do I find SourceQuery and this json file?

Google the first one. And ask Highwon for info on the second, I'm not sure if he wants to give it out.

I'll ask him. I'd love to help SeriousTTT.
