You may have noticed I haven't been around much at all the last couple of days. Back on Thursday my sister was involved in a car accident. She was a passenger in the car with my mother driving, they were stopped to make a turn when another driver slammed into the back of their car going 50mph. Police have yet to finish the investigation into the accident but they say they believe there is a likelihood the other driver was intoxicated. My mother is going to make a speedy recovery, all she sustained was 6 broken ribs. Sadly enough I cannot say the same for my sister. She has 11 fractures in her lower spine and hip. Friday she underwent a 13 hour surgery that was a huge success. We learned from the neurosurgeon who did the work on her spine that one of her vertabrae was completely shattered. The neurosurgeon was shocked that she managed to take so much damage without also destroying her spinal cord. There is going to be another surgery in a few weeks to continue the work on her spine but if everything goes well she stands to make a full recovery over the next year or so. My sister's recovery is going to be hard and long. Because of the damage to her hip she is going to be unable to put any weight whatsoever on her left leg and will be bound to a wheelchair for at least six months. She is going to have to undergo years of physical therapy. This is all going to be incredibly expensive and my family is going to need all the help they can get, especially to help make my sister as comfortable as possible to help with her recovery. We have started a GoFundMe where all of the proceeds are going to go towards her recovery. We know she is going to need a wheelchair and home health aide although we do not yet have a full picture of what her recovery is going to involve yet. If you have any questions feel free to get in contact with me although I may take time to respond, I am spending every minute I can at the hospital with her.
You and I already have talked about this, and I am extremely morose about all that has happened to you and your family as of recent. Take your time coming back to the team man. Take as much time as you need to spend time with your family during this time. I know you won't be going anywhere anytime soon hopefully so if you been more than what you've taken let me know and I'll be here for you.
Wow, I'm sorry bubonic. I was worrying about you. Hope ya sister get better. Words can only go so far. I will pray for her recovery.
I've given what I can right now. I hope both of them will recover fully and quickly. Stay strong buddy, you and your family as well.
I hope all goes well but I gotta ask because it wasn't mentioned, was the other drive not insured or did he drive off? Even bottom line liability coverage should help out quite a bit, and then you can sue the driver for the rest of the damages. Just some info in case you haven't already gotten it.
The other driver died. http://www.ktuu.com/content/news/Knik-Goose-Bay-crash-blocks-traffic-near-Wasilla-487454721.html
As terrible as that is, the question still stands. If the vehicle was insured, then there should be some relief from that.
Been waiting a few days until I had good news for the update and here we are. My mother is doing well, she may still need surgery for the ribs but the docs say that there is a good chance she can heal up without surgery. My sister had her first surgery and while it lasted 13 hours it was a success, managing to stabilize her spine and pin her hip back together. She had to spend a few days intubated but has come out of it doing well. She will still be in the hospital for another week or two because she is due to have a second surgery on her spine any day now, it turns out one of her vertebrae was completely disintegrated and they are going to have to custom fabricate an implant due to her having a larger than usual space between vertebrae. We are still trying to get more information on the other driver because the investigation is still ongoing but so far we've learned that he has had multiple prior dui's, his vehicle had trafficking amounts of heroin and paraphernalia inside, and the real kick in the gut- he didn't have insurance or a driver's license. We are lucky that my dad carried uninsured coverage on their vehicle and my mother's hospital visit should be covered by it but it is only going to cover up to 50k of my sisters medical bills. We are hoping that her health insurance will at least begin to cover some of the remainder.
I’m sorry to hear that this took place as it’s likely extremely emotional for you and your family. Hope everything works out well and that future therapy shows positive results
I read the gofundme and started to read the news posts when it said alongside KGB. Straight up thought russia was fuckin up and then read the rest of it. Best of luck to your sister
