Opalcraft: Community Minecraft Server

Curating our own pack would allow us to choose the mods that we want. I think it's the best option.

 

I like option 2 since there are many mods I would have liked to see in direwolf20 but weren't there. Ender IO to name one specifically. If we were to go with this option, how would we decide what mods go in and what mods dont? Would we also be able to pick the MC version too?

 

Option 2 is definitely my favourite.

Even though you'd have to download a custom modpack that would be no different to what you have to do in order to properly play on our modded TTT servers.
I don't see much of a problem in having to download a custom modpack. Especially if it's a pre-packed installation that you basically just have to run. I don't think something like that would really scare off new players either.

In my opinion the benefits definitely outweigh the cons.

 

A custom mod pack is really easy to set up in the twitch launcher. I can help people do that.

 

I'm down for custom mod pack.

Also down for supporting the server cuz I know hosting these servers isn't free.

Also would you be asking us for opinions on mods that should be added? Because I agree Ender IO should definitely be added. Theres a few others mods as well that I'd love to see.

Option 2:

Yes, this was a point I was thinking. Option 2 will absolutely make the current server redundant, which may be a bit of an irritating changeover for those who have spent a great deal of time into the current server. That said, I'm personally not in that boat, as I've only just begun playing a few days ago, and in the long run, I do think even the above mentioned players could benefit from some of the suggested changes.

My Concern:
I do have a concern with option 2 regarding the hand selection of mods. My concern is that there will be less mods in this custom modpack, that only the favorites/common mods will be hand picked, and the potentially lesser used/unique and interesting mods will be missed. Part of the magic of FTB is trying out new mods that you've never used before. So I guess what I'd like to see for option 2 is some of these unique and interesting mods preserved to keep some variety.​

I think factions might be a fun addition to it though. I mean I don't see how it'd be a negative effect.

I agree, I'd like to see unique mods that I've never really played before. I wanna see some variety, and I'd like those mods to be completely different from the Direwolf server. Or else it'd be redundant to have.

Since the goal originally for a new server was to have it so more people join, since it's less modded. So it wouldn't be as tough on peoples PCs. My concern is that we lose this aspect completely, I'd like new unique mods for sure. But I don't think I'd like to entirely lose this aspect. So I don't want the new server packed with mods. Imo.

Vanilla will just die unless you add something that allows for infinite content like pvp / griefing / basewars


For modded we should base the pack on a semi expert to expert level pack because I'm sure many of us have lots of FTB experience and will blast through too quick, and it allows for the experienced players to help teach new players stuff.

 

We made an initial draft out of the suggested mods, filtering out some broken/unusable mods. It's far from final, of course, but we want to start gatherign opinions.
More mods will be added and some mods may be removed from it once we get to test them properly.

Astral Sorcery is a pretty good one to add too, it has a somewhat easy early game and great late game potential with autoamation, grinding and pretty nice decoration

 

I'm really liking the list! ... but of course, I do have a few suggestions ranked from 1* to 3*** stars of importance to me:

• Actually Additions *** (I love this mod, please include it in the pack!) - note: also adds useful early game storage crates.
• Baubles *** (Many mods utilise Baubles feature) Note: If including Acutally Additions please think about including "Actually Baubles" for integration.
• Inventory Tweaks ** (Quality of life mod! - though, if I remember correctly there are mods that can be used client side, so may not be necessary on server side)
• Botania ** (Very well put together mod, and good for those who don't like power/machine type mods)
• Better Builders Wand ** (Please add, this is a must if you want to build large structures...)
• Iron Chests ** (early game storage option)
• Thermal Dynamics * (Lots of other mods add pipes, so it's more of a nice to have by giving more options for piping.)
  
• Simply Jetpacks * (not really necessary given that there are lots of other mods that enable flight, but a nice to have).
• Industrial Forgoing * (It's a Minefactory Reloaded rework... it's def. a lag inducing mod, so I can understand if you wish to avoid this one)
• Not Enough Wands * (You can never have enough wands am I right? adds some really unique wands to the game)

By the way, this has been brought up before. But could you possibly make it so we could claim more than 10 chunks??

 

I would base the pack off infinity evolved expert mode or project ozone 2 kappa mode, as far as mod lists go. I'm not a huge fan of magic mods but I know others might be so itd be cool to have them in the pack as long as they dont restrict progression in a dumb way
