Opalcraft: Community Minecraft Server

I would love currencies btw; I have always loved that idea.

 

Seems that the vote has it for a vanilla server which is great and all, but maybe Regrowth server or a Infinity Evolved? Idk.

 

Eh Infinity Evolved is a bit much like Direwolf, just with some different aspects. Wouldn't be a point, not sure about regrowth.

 

Id love a modded skyblock server instead of direpack honestly. But ya kno its up to every one

 

I like the idea. But I'm not sure if many people would prefer Skyblock over FTB.

 

I enjoy Vanilla from time to time, but my preference lies with FTB, and I've been enjoying the populated server. Personally, I'm against splitting the playerbase between a Vanilla and FTB server. I say, stick to one server to promote longevity.

 

That's a good point. However, there are players who are unable to play FTB due to the much higher requirements, don't want to fiddle with the installation, or just dislike it. I want to provide them a place to play too.
If anything, I think more players would join said playerbase if this is done.

 

If there was a vanilla server I might hop on and play sometime, so my votes on yes.

 

As it goes a lot of people would like a vanilla server.
What I suggest, to really get a population (if you want more people that aren't just from SGM.)
Have many worlds, such as Creative, Survival, Factions, and maybe you could have a skywars mode. I know personally, I love playing skywars.
But if you are goin' for simple, a regular, vanilla, survival/factions server. Would definitely be nostalgic, and I'm sure many people would love to play it.

 

Vanilla is fun for a bit but gets so boring and so stale quick. There really isn’t a lot to do in vanilla.

 

Thats why we should have Creative and Skywars. Just some minigames, but focus it around survival factions. Imo.

 

Hey uhh could we maybe extend the chunks to maybe 20/25? because I don't think 10 will cut it. since 16x16 actually much smaller compared how big the overworld is and I think having larger area would be helpful for people who tend to build big structures that are usually more detailed and expand the living space.

After doing some research, I can layout the basic plan I have in mind.
There are two options:

1. A completely mod-free (as in client side mods) server, where all you need to play is Minecraft itself . The server will still have a whole bunch of plugins and systems, like Factions, Economy, Market, etc.
   
   Pros:
   • No need to install anything to play. Just download Minecraft and fire it away.
   • No performance degradaton from client mods.
   • Just the vanilla game, without new or complicated mechanics from mods.
   Cons:
   • A lot less content, which means it will probably become boring a lot faster. While plugins like Factions and Economy can provide more value to the game, this is still limited. If you remember, this was one of the main complaints for SMC.
   • This is more of a personal opinion, but the methods of doing things - claiming, trading, setting up shops etc. - can be crude. Modded MC usually has proper interfaces and controls for all this.

2. Same as the above, but with the addition of a custom mod pack tailored by us. The idea is to build a list of mods ourselves instead of a premade pack like Direwolf20 or Sky Factory. This list will be built by myself with the help and advice of all of you, with the goal of adding more content and gameplay value, but also keep everything balanced and fair, aim for minimal performance reduction, and avoid buggy mods.
   
   Benefits:
   • Far more interesting gameplay with all kinds of additions and new content that will ensure the server will not get boring so quickly.
   • Makes things like Factions, trading, shops/markets and other plugins a lot more fun and worth investing in, as there is a lot more content and things to work with.
   • Since this is a custom modpack, changes and updates can be done on our own without the danger of breaking other things. It's basically all in our hands.
   • Easier controls
   Cons:
   • Playing requires installing the various mods. While not difficult at all (we're going to pack this into an easy installation), some people may hesitate to fiddle with it. It's less user-friendly than vanilla Minecraft.
   • Potential performance issues for lower-end machines, though we'll try to avoid mods which greatly impact performance.
   • A learning curve: players who are not familiar with the mods will have to learn to play them or use them. Though, on the other hand, this can also be a fun experience.

• In both options, I aim to provide both a creative and a survival universe which you can freely switch between (you'll have different characters for each, of course).
• In both options, I will add the important plugins (Factions, Economy, Shops and Markets, etc.).
• Both options come with Vivecraft support.
  
• Of course, if we go with option 2, the existing server may become redundant. However, I don't plan to shut it down as long as people want to play it.

I think the second option sounds cool. I hope my game won't lag as much as it did when I joined your first modded server.
