Just wanted to post this since it happened to me. I had a bug where windows was repeatedly telling me the update failed. This is just a bug, and if windows is saying you're up to date, you're up to date.

 

Looks like i had auto-update on and it says there's no available updates so am i good? "everyday we will check for new updates"

They need to trick you into clicking something in order for them to start hacking your pc, and there is small possibility your antivirus might save you

 

It effects every CPU since 1995. So yes it effects you

 

It has been confirmed that malicious/infected websites can exploit this without the user's knowledge or interaction with some simple JavaScript code.
It can happen without you ever knowing. Don't risk it.

 

If windows says you're up to date, just check in Control Panel that you have the update KB4056892 (Critical) under Installed updates, probably titled something like 01-2018 Windows security update. It was pushed yesterday 2 days ago and needs a reboot to update so if that's not the case, you should check.
