Something I wanna tell y'all

I came out to my parents aged 15 that I came out I was trans. They sort of took it badly at first but eventually warmed down to the idea.

From quite a young age actually. As long as I can remember I just sorta haven't fit in.

Stupid.

There's individuals now in this community that previously knew I was transgender and I felt like they were going to leak it to attack me. I'm not going to name them for the tiny amount of respect I still have for them, but I wanted everyone to hear from me, not them.

Haven't really decided yet. I probably am though.

Believe it or not, only a few people in my entire college now I'm trans and I trust them a lot. Aside from them, there is obviously my family and a few other real close friends.

As long as you can be comfortable with who you are, that's most important.
I know some people who made some wrong choices in life, but still I love them all equally even if they think the black alien is better.

Damn Echo, this took some balls dude. Honestly some people don't have the courage to express who they are or what they want, the fact that you do is all respect given to you. You catch any hate or hell from anyone cause of this let me know and I got your back man.

I know someone who transitioned from a girl to a boy so I have in fact seen the change that your going to start. I 1000% support your decision. Yes its a huge step but its a huge step towards being comfortable in your own skin. I hope that all goes well for you! I know that you can get a prosthetic special place that you can use just like a man could if your interested in that route until you have the official special place surgery! Just little (hopefully) helpful tips! ^_^ Good luck!

 

I understand why people downvoted Supreme to hell, but honestly, you shouldn't have, and here's why: a stigma lies with the use of "disorder", and it's something that we as a culture (or planet, even) have to get past.

I have bipolar disorder. I have schizotypal personality disorder. I have an autism spectrum disorder. (To be fair, the last two are probably the same thing.) In my case, these are a result of brain damage sustained at childbirth. When my diagnoses were mismanaged as a teenager, I nearly went off the deep end. It took good treatment, care from family, and a LOT of introspection to overcome. But the point is that these disorders don't define me- they are simply personality archetypes to be aware of, so I can combat the worst of the issues associated with them.

The same is true of body dysmorphic disorder or gender dysphoria/gender identity disorder (I lump these together to give credence to the idea that there doesn't need to exist a strict binary- some people, such as my boyfriend, might want to remain 'male' but look/sound like a girl.) There are good responses to these and bad responses to them. Having the disorder identified should not be damning, but exist as a way of categorizing steps you take in your life to better it. With body dysmorphic disorder, the 'good' steps are to progress your secondary sexual characteristics and appearance to the point where you start to feel comfortable with what you see looking back at you in the mirror. With gender dysphoria, it's to identify lifestyle changes necessary to feel as if you exist as the person you need to be, and to help people treat you as such. The good steps have a specific set of goals in mind, with the end being psychological health. You like yourself. The 'bad' side of this is when a person has a much more intense struggle with the disorder, and they'll never be happy with what they see in the mirror. This is when professional help is most necessary, and why it's important to be aware of the evil thoughts creeping in at the fringes of your consciousness, to avoid progressing from healthy transition into this severe anxiety. If you're aware of it, you can head it off at the pass.

This isn't a specific warning to Echo or anything, just a general rambling on the subject of psychological diagnoses.

Plus if it's a 'disorder', it's easier to get insurance to cover it. Eventually this won't be the case, but for now it's just one of them things.

Asking the real questions here . Ignorance is usually the root of intolerance when it comes to these things, I don't see why people would rate you dumb for trying to understand somebody more. These are some of the questions I was wondering, also. It helps people understand eachother since not a lot of people know much about trans culture (I certainly don't).

Can't wait for the day no one cares about stuff like this, outside of a "Yeah, alright. You're a dude." That's where I believe acceptance has been achieved, when everyone stops caring.

Everybody just needs to figure out how to mind their own damn business. I don't care about anyone else, or what they do so long as it doesn't affect me.

Jokes aside, I'm very proud of you for sharing this. You're always an awesome person to play Deathrun with. I would personally never be able to do this myself and it's amazing to see how accepting this great community is. Edit: Also kudos for coming out, it takes a lot to come out and say something like this

 

I just feel like I don't fit in with other girls. I honestly can't explain it, but I just felt so much more like a guy than I did a girl.
