SGM Secret Santa

Welcome to Python's Secret Santa Event
I did this a couple years back in an old community I was in and it was a huge success, so I figured I'd try it out here​

Here's how it'll go down:​

1. You enter by rating this post Optimistic
2. At the end of this month (November), I will randomize the names and give everyone their Secret Santa through PMs
3. You send me the item you would like to gift to them (Steam game, Steam market item, cash for a rank, lots of in-game points, etc.)
4. I place your gifts on a Notepad so I know who has given what
5. Next month, at around the 20th or so, I begin handing out the presents/donating the ranks

FAQ:

Q: Can I reveal to my partner that I am their Secret Santa?
A: I can't stop you, however, it kind of defeats the point of a "Secret" Santa, doesn't it? Feel free to do it after the event is over if you'd rather

Q: How do we know you won't take everything and run?
A: I've been apart of this community for several years. I have no reason whatsoever to take anything that is given to me, especially not things intended for the Holidays. I can also link the Secret Santa I performed in my last community if you'd like

Q: Can we give the item(s) to the person ourselves?
A: As much as I'd like to be able to do that and avoid the sketchiness, in order for this to work I need to know who will actually give in their present.
Edit: As far as donating ranks or any other thing like that, I will not collect the money. However, you will have to pay for the person's rank or whatnot before you receive your gift.

Q: How does it work and what happens if someone doesn't give in a present for their Secret Santa?
A: Following up on the above answer, here is how the randomizing of the Secret Santa will go down:

Then, the person above your name will be your Secret Santa, so

Python's Santa would be Collin
Collin's Santa would be Whitney
Whitney's Santa would be St. Nick
and so on and so forth

Let's say Whitney dips out on her gift for Collin
The gift St. Nick originally donated to Whitney will now go to Collin, and she will drop out of the Secret Santa

That reminds me: DON'T ENTER IF YOU DO NOT INTEND TO PARTICIPATE PROPERLY
And by properly, don't expect to be able to give a $0.02 crate and get a $20 Steam game
Disclaimer: I have the right to deny any gift if I deem it too poorly thought up or much too cheap. Try to find something that the person you're paired with would actually like/use

Remember, this is the season of giving. If you're not planning on doing that, this isn't the place for you​

hmmm. I dont agree that you are the one holding all this money and getting the credit for the ranks.

 

I'm not technically getting the credit for the ranks. I'm just playing as the tree you put your presents under and I dish em out. I can't have people say they'll donate VIP+ or whatnot and not go through with it, or it fucks everything else up

I can probably figure something out tho. Maybe just have them donate the rank before I give them their present.

 

but how will it work for steam gifts as that stuff got changed

cause if you don't redeem gift it gets refunded, so we'd have to directly gift it and thus revealing ourselves

Edited the OP. I will no longer be accepting cash donations. Rather, you will donate the rank to the person yourself before receiving your gift.

Buy the game on the Humble Bundle store or G2A and send me the game code link. I'll paste it in Notepad and give it to the person when the time comes

Then buy them a Steam item for a game they play

 

OR what you could do is buy a steam item worth the same value, more or less and they could sell it so they can buy something they want

 

You should collect a wish list of the things people want so you can give people ideas.

Also, set a limit on price of gifts

 

That would be a waste because they could only get like 85% of the items value because steam/valve takes it... might as well just give them the money through PayPal or steam directly.

The point of secret Santa is that they do not know who is giving it to them. So the item would have to be sent to Gravy as well and then to the person that is receiving the present.

So just a suggestion or two

First, great idea Python, and for those that are nervous, I wouldnt be, Python wouldn't be a dick like that.

Anyway, I think you should, via PM, let people type out a short paragraph about what they want, otherwise it might be difficult to collect info on the person you have to buy for without giving it away. Just send the paragraph along with the person you have been selected to buy for.

And second, I know this will add a whole new layer of complexity to the system you have set up Python, but I personally would like to actually send stuff to people, because I think it adds a more personal touch than just giving someone points, or a steam game, and allows for a lot more creativity, so here's what I would do, since I know people would be hesitant to give out their info to potentially complete strangers, just let people choose if they are okay with giving their address out, if they dont, than that's fine, but I would personally love to send the person I get some real life stuff, since I think it adds a more personal touch, and I also wouldn't mind receiving stuff either since as long as my info stayed between me, Python, and my secret santa, I wouldnt mind giving it out. As far as people ducking and pretending to send stuff out, but not actually doing it, just tell Python what you sent out with a picture, and if they don't get it by the 20th, drop them out of the secret santa like you regularly would.

Anyway, just my 2 cents, I'm really excited for this

Not sure about the sending gifts to each other irl tho. Maybe a bit too complicated this time around. Maybe next year
