My Mic Won't Work At All

So earlier when I was playing ttt, I realized that my mic wasn't going through to everyone on the server. What I normally use is a pair of black earbuds but suddenly, my voice wasn't transmitting to the server. I had to test it multiple times in gmod and a couple times in steam and still nothing. And then after that, I couldn't even hear anyone talk even when their box showed up in the upper left of the screen showing that they were talking in their mic. And now I'm panicking that it will never work again. I really need help on getting it to work again cuz honestly, I love talking in my mic and I hate to type in chat cuz it's less fun. I really need support, advice, and strategies from you guys on how to get my mic working again and that I can also hear other people talking as well.

 

Also, it works great when I listen to music on my laptop but it still won't work when I'm playing ttt. My earbuds are kinda wearing down but they still sound great when I listen to music. Still though, some help will be appreicated

 

Might need a new mic. earbud mics aren't that great.

 

Like what is a preferred mic to you? Is it like a headset with headphones and a mic or just an actual microphone sitting next to me?

 

The cheapest route would be to just buy new earbuds

Of course, make sure to check your GMod voice settings, reinstall GMod, and test your mic on multiple other outlets like vocaroo just to make sure it actually doesn't work anywhere

If you have a bit of dosh, invest in a good headset. I'd recommend a Logitech G430

 

Try to get a headset with a mic.

 

Like python said, the g430 is a good and cheap headset. Invest in one of those, since those will last you alot longer than a pair of ear buds.

 

Just to get the obvious out of the way, you didnt press F2 at all did you? This can mute voice chat ingame.

 

I actually fixed that problem where I couldn't hear anybody. And I didn't push f2 at all to mute people.

 

go to steam settings, under voice, click detect audio devices. test microphone after

 

Nope it still didn't work.

 

If you don't find a solution and want to buy new headset;

Wouldn't suggest anything wireles from logitech, i've had a bad expirience with them. Maybe turtle beach is the way to start looking

 

my Solution: Right Click the Volume Button on your Desktop and Click Recording Devices, make sure your microphone is set to your Earbud microphone, then go to the website linked below, make4 sure to click "Allow Microphone" and if you can hear yourself the mic works, if you can't then it's tough luck and you'll have to get a new microphone or earbuds.

I agree completely if you're going to re-buy get a headset instead of a cheap stand-up mic or earbud mic.

 

If you have a PS or Xbox controller plugged in, that will also make your mic all of a sudden stop working. If you have one in, unplug it and reset your mic.
