A command for the staff to show rules to rulebreakers o.o

Im sure we can all agree, that not many people type !motd to get shown the rules page while in game. And that we have some people on the server that doesnt know what they are getting slain for or what they did wrong and the staff uses some time to explain it.

But I thought, that if the staff had the posibillity to just say to the confused player "Here let me show you the rules" and then type as an example "!srules <playername>" " and if you still are confused about your slay feel free to ask again"

My thoughts were that it could save a lot of explanation time for the staff ^^
And the reason I came to think of it, is cause we have a command like that on the server I am admin on o.o

what the command does, is it forces a pop-up of the rules-page to appear in the middle of the screen of the targeted player ^^

How to set it up though... sorry I dont know anything about programming o.o I just know its a possibillity to use >.>

So what are your thoughts? c:

The rules are so basic and simple that for 99% of cases it would "You RDM'd for no reason, the MOTD just says "RDM". So its pointless and is just annoying to have something forced onto your screen. Staff do a better job of explaining a lay than the MOTD does, and frankly its rude to just chuck a screen at someone rather than actually answer their question.

The only way this would is for extended rules and loopholing but because each case of those is different and the Extended rules is in the middle of a giant ass guide it would be redundant.

Honestly, anyone who would benefit from being shown either the motd or the extended rules would generally take the time to find those things themselves. I don't see this being worthwhile, and it feels sort of a clunky way of dealing with things.

I would not be for this because as carned said it forces a screen onto the player and if you were trying out to the staff member while playing, which was what I did 90% of the time, to have a screen thrown at me while playing would be highly detrimental to my experience. They're good enough at their job to explain why something happened, but it's just that most players are not gonna take time to learn the rules well

I, like others, feel like if someone is going to read the rules, They can either type !motd or just look at the pop up when they first join the servers.. The only way I see this being a good addon is if you can do it while the player you're trying to do it to is dead, as like @Robokiller87 said, "To have a screen thrown at me while playing would be highly detrimental to my experience." This would absolutely scare some players away, who might come off as mingers or RDMers but were rather just new to the game ( Of course only a number of them would actually have that as their case)

Im not saying that they are bad at doing their job.. just saying it could save some time for the staff o.o And well I must have typed something wrong since you all see it as rude to show a player the rules xD

I can see why you guys would see it as annoying, as you all know the rules very well and knows how to find them. But those players who doesnt know the rules well and doesnt know where to find them, probably would find it a bit useful that the staff will lend a hand in showing the rules to the player o.o

There are alot of perspectives of usage ofcourse ^^

Ofcourse how the staff uses it whether they show it to the player while they are dead or playing is up to them o.o

The way we used it was after a player got autoslain for an RDM we showed them the rules afterwards to let them know what they did wrong o.o

But (Unless it was taken away) moderators and up have the ability to say a message to live and dead chat that says something like "Type in !motd to view or rules and protocol"

in my 400 hours I nearly never see anyone who types !motd and even though that is their own fault for not reading the rules through. I still think it will be benefitial to have the abillity to show the rules to a player when its needed, to make them understand o.o

Still don't want a random screen to appear in front of my face if I was playing. Whether that's me, an experienced player, or some joe, who is new to the server.

Well.. if some of the staff consider to find it useful, they can just put the thing on trial for a week, see if they ever would be in need of it or if it will be helpful at all o.o

It was just a suggestion afterall xD haha

-1, staff just tell them to look at the !motd and link the extended rules. Much easier, and less detrimental to gameplay.

I don't believe it is the staff's job to hold people's hands during a game. We are not obligated to, and it isn't our job. Out job is to enforce the rules while in game; nothing more and nothing less. Sure, it is nice when we answer questions and stuff and we should when we have time. But it isn't our job. Some players are just not interested in learning the rules and giving them a second look at the motd will not help things. It is best to let nature take it's course and hope that the slays/bans will motivate them to learn the rules. If the punishments don't, then it is nobody's fault but their own and they will eventually be removed from the community in one way or another. Some people simply enjoy ignorance and nothing is going to change that. I am a strong believer that people should help themselves to the best of their ability, because if they aren't willing to help themselves I see no reason to waste my time trying to help them. If they actually cared, they would put in the time to learn the rules.

I hope this explains why something like this isn't necessary and would prove to be useless if implemented. How often do you close pop-ups from websites without reading them? Probably above 90% of the time. You probably have a pop-up blocker installed on your computer. We have learned to disregard pop-ups, most players wouldn't even read it.

Thanks for the suggestion. It is in good motive, but it simply wouldn't be useful.

This could very easily be done with lua commands but the fact is itd be rarely used and players would get very very upset that rules were force opened on them (it opens up in their steam overlay web browser) -1

I am going to make a point that no one else has made. What if you are a troll right, what if you are just chillaxing all cool and all and you decide you going to break all the rules on the server. You aren't ignorant of the rules, you just fail to comply to them because you are a backward thinking toad.

being a backward little toad you are, you decide that even though you aren't ignorant of the rules, you claim to be to the mods. Maybe you even convince them that you have no idea how to open the motd.

What a better way to learn the rules than to be burned by them:

This illustrates me being banned for ghosting. Back then I had no idea what that meant. I was like "the fuck is ghosting? was I being spoooky?" No. I wasn't being spooky, rather I was being ignorant. Notice how I haven't been banned for ghosting? It's because I now understand what it is after suffering.

Thanks for an answer that didnt make me feel like people were roasting me for suggesting it xD aha
And well I see your point in what you say and I do agree that its not your job to make sure people have read the rules when they do rulebreaks o.o

And I also apology o.o Because I have been acting a bit like if this was the same community as the one Im a staff member on, and the thing is that our servers and community are complete different o.o and the way that I have been administrating compared to how administrating is done here is a lot different o.o Im probably the kinda guy that deals with stuff Im not obligated to xD I should put myself more in the shoes of this community next time :3 Sowwy

I kinda have to agree at this point. Unless you were even showing them a specific section of the rules too. I think the most I'd ask for is the ability to just PM them a message to check the Motd. And, we already have that. By the time it'd take to type out the command, then telling them what part to look at, you might as well type out the rules themselves.

  19. Meh. I've made this point before, if people actually care about the server/don't wanna get banned, they'll read the rules. If they don't give a single shit about the rules, just ban them.

Your responsibilities as a moderator are much more than just "enforce the rules". If you think that's all you need to do, or that's all you do, then I think you are a not a good moderator and should resign. You pretty much represent @Highwon and the upper administration while they are not on. If mods were only required to enforce rules, then why demote mods when they fuck around and troll other communities? Why would we demote mods for acting unprofessional in game? I'm sure you are aware of this and maybe didn't mean what you said, but I think it reflects poorly when you have mods going around saying "our only job is to enforce rules", because we all know that's just a smaller part of the bigger picture.
