Imagine a server where people can roam free without the threat of being RDMed. A TTT server that actually puts trouble makers in the spotlight, where mistakes... are punishable by death. A SERIOUS server. If that sounds like the ideal server to you, then I proudly present the all new... Basically, instead of banning players we would instead have them enter a special program called the "Suicide Program" where they can still play on the server, but with a set of regulations they must follow. Upon entering the program, all players who are to be subjected to bans will instead sign over their rights to the staff at SeriousGmod, and agree to a clause stating that should they make a single mistake while in the program they will be given a full permanent ban with no chance of parole. You see, I know all to well the suffering and misery of being a victim to not only Mass RDMers but also those who frequently get karma banned and seem to just be above the law. I think implementing a system such as this that applies to all ban types would actually really help to keep the server clean and RDM free. What kind of people would be eligible for such a program? EVERYONE can be eligible. Everyone from Toxic behaviour, Mass RDMers, right down to Karma bans. The regulations will very strict but also very simple, and will be as follows: 1. Should a player kill another player of the same role he/she will fail the program. 2. Should a player in any way, shape or forum threaten another player he/she will fail the program (ie. pointing gun towards someone). 3. Should a player touch a staff member or look in the direction of a staff member he/she will fail the program. 4. Regulations are discretion based and subject to change as an administrator sees fit, and failure to abide by these improvised regulations will result in failure in the program. 5. Should a player fail the program they will be permanently banned with no chance to appeal. Advantages of the program: Not only does this program solve RDM on the servers, but it also lessens the work load for staff by removing the appeal system. Studies have also shown that with this program in place for an extended period of time we can expect to see RDM on the servers drop drastically to near non-existent levels. By reducing RDM to this degree we will no longer require as many staff, meaning this program will actually help solve the staffing shortage! This "Suicide Program" will give players a second chance if you will. A second chance to be apart of a movement to better the servers, and should a player successfully play problem free for 200 hours then they would be released. (not banned). (length is subject to change on a specific basis should a player actually reach close to program completion)kinda like that movie
Imma say no cause my internet occasionally crashes and if I lose connection before I get slayed that's a ban of 'RDM and leave 1st offence' and I really don't to be banned from the only servers I ever played on. ;(
It's good but what if a mod is a Traitor? What if someone has a genuine reason to kill someone of their own role, like an innocent breaking a tester? You should also be able to choose a ban over this, like get a choice out of a month ban or this for a month. I, personally want want this to be a must.
Karma bans don't necessarily mean that a player is an RDMer. ***I REALLY HOPE THIS DOESN'T GET ADDED.***
-1 There have already been implemented plenty of regulations that deal with RDM insomuch that increasing the strictness even more would make everyone afraid of even playing the game. The ban appeals are a necessary part of TTT as there are simply too many situations (misunderstanding, honest mistake by a mod, ...) where the issued ban was deemed invalid or at least too severe. In the end this game is about having fun, so penalizing what could be mistakes or one-time occasions in that kind of way is just ridiculous. This wouldn't solve the staffing problem either. It would just make it harder as by including your so-called "Suicide program" we'd have to take into account a second set of rules aside from the ones already in place. Permabanning should only be reserved for the worst of the worst among our playerbase and to me an occasional RDM'er or someone who curses from time to time does not fall under this category ("EVERYONE can be eligible.) Also, apart from the idea itself, I believe the proposed rule system is way out of line. This would just scare off basically everyone. Even the most seasoned players make mistakes sometimes. What about crossfire, GBA, unided,... Newer players do not necessarily know about these rules and might not include them into their response of a report, leading to a slay, or in this case a permaban. Again, scaring off new players. This is just impossible. How is someone supposed to play the game whilst not being allowed to point a gun at someone? How do you define threatening someone? Again, ridiculous. Currently, the rules are well defined and still there is a necessity of discretion (eg when is something harassment). If players do not get a chance to appeal, this increased "improvisation" would just result in chaos. No.
