I personally wouldn't recommend it. If I could trade my laptop for a desktop, I would in a second. The only reason you would need a laptop is of 1) You don't have internet at home or 2) If you do a lot of media arts that require a lot of your time. That's it really. You can use your cellphone to work on essay assignments outside of class/home, to talk to friends, and to kill time. Gaming on a laptop isn't worth it unless you have an expensive laptop but with that kind of money you could just build a better desktop instead. Taking out your laptop in public is also embarrassing since everyone stares at you like if you're watching porn or something. I just leave my laptop at home and never move it from my desk.
