    What is Discord?
Discord is a free communication app developed by Hammer & Chisel. They created Discord as a replacement for Skype, Teamspeak and Ventrillo. They weren't satisfied with the security, features and usability of all of those apps. Discord is a light weight app designed around ease of use and with gamers in mind. Discord can overlay on most games and is super gamer friendly. The platform updates regularly and the team behind it said they wish to keep Discord free and ad free, they are also against compromising the user experience for any reason. If you're unhappy with Skype this is definitely a platform for you and if you are a gamer then Discord is catered to not intrude on your gaming experience.

It's growing in popularity, and it's easy to see why with new features on the horizon such as custom plug in support, and support for user modifications. You can get the app yourself here.

    Why we should use it
To put it simply, it's a completely free, better quality, faster and easy to use chat program that can be set up in mere seconds. And with the recent overlay addition, it has become even easier to use in-game.

If you go for this idea, feel free to add me on Skype if you want help with it. I've set up enough that I know the program a little too well.

Is this an advertisement for discord?

This has been suggested multiple times and people were against it.

    NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

No one wants that shit service except for people wanting attention to show that they're being "creative" or "innovative" or "helpful". What is currently being used is better and if not just as good and doesn't need to be swapped out.

As you can see, we don't want it. Thanks for playing, have a nice day.

+1 for creativity though, doesn't look too shabby of an advertisement.
But yeah TS suits the needs of the community more, Discord is good for like League and stuff though.

You say shit service, I say a vast improvement to everything we have. A lot of people want that "shit servive" otherwise the program wouldn't have a following. Some communities have a use for it, some do not. This is one that obviously does not. So shut up, and move on.

You say this application is better than the rest, but you don't give any examples that prove its worth.
For example: You say it's completely free, yet the other communication apps are free too.
You also say: It's really easy to set up, but why would we would that become a plus if we already are using a communication app that is already set up?
Also, I do not see how having an overlay would help out at all, since with teamspeak, all you need to do is press the talk key (in game). Which is basically all you would need it for - is to talk to your friends.
So basically, these examples are irrelevant as they are either insufficient evidence to prove it's gained perks that the others do not have, or the other apps have the exact same features.

Also, as stated multiple times above, it has been suggested before.
Please search to see if it has been suggested before making another suggestion otherwise resulting in spam.

Other 3rd-party comm. servers DO cost money, discord does not. Just because you're not bearing the cost doesn't mean it's free.
Discord has a channel-based system and an intuitive server management UI for the admins, which Teamspeak and Mumble have, but it combines all of those features with a good text-based chat similar to Skype.
Knowing you guys have already had the Teamspeak set-up though makes it seem like the transition isn't necessary.

    *everyone

Personally, Teamspeak is broken as hell for anyone I know who has used it. Maybe it was just the server we were on, who knows.

I did search. Nothing came up.

And I was not saying it's better than the rest. TeamSpeak and Discord have different perks. TeamSpeak has great quality and is good for vast communities, Discord is completely free and extremely easy to use for someone with little to no experience.

I recently began using discord to keep in touch with my Twitch friends. I have gotten used to it, but it took a little longer to get used to than TS. I don't think there's really advantage to it other than the fact that it's free on mobile.

The interfaces for Discord and TS are very different, which means that whatever you've been using for a while is the one you'll prefer. And yea, Discord is free on all platforms.

This community prefers TeamSpeak, so that's what they'll stick with :)

Some of the posts in this thread are unnecessarily hostile.

Thank you for suggesting this, Ethan. We currently have no need to migrate our current work into Discord, as our TeamSpeak server has been doing us great work for the time we've created it.

However, on the rare occasion that our TeamSpeak is down, I'm sure there are a few SGM members who use a temporary Discord server to hide out in until TeamSpeak comes back up, so we definitely recognize it as a decent chat program. We just wouldn't change our resources over, since we've invested so much into it.

If you have any questions, feel free to message me.
