harassment on servers

I think the point Silent is trying to make is that to avoid bullying online isn't so simple as shutting off your pc. A lot of people come online to hang out with friends, have fun, and enjoy themselves. We as staff are required to make sure the servers are fun and enjoyable within the rules of the various games modes we offer. If we just told people to shut their PC off and get over it or do something else, well we wouldn't be very helpful, would we?

 

Yeah random scenarios that happened last night while an admin was on the server, totally random. And just because I'm not being told to kill myself doesn't mean it shouldn't happen.

PS: You should probably kill yourself because you're as dumb as a 2nd grader, by the way staff members you can't warn me for harassment because it wasn't directed towards you guys so don't be oversensitive about it.

 

i've had people continuously fuck with me aswell, and when i asked staff to help out, they got right on it and settled it.

These guys don't even know you in real life. There is also a mute button for a reason so USE IT. It's one thing to discriminate on sexual orientation, race, and religion. Its another when it's about your voice. The phrase sticks and stones may break my bones but words will never hurt me is a good example of this. Another thing is your voice may be the reason people insult you because it's some thing they can get their feelings about because you chonpsey aren't an innocent Angel, you aren't terrible, but there are some hitches in your giddyup and people on Vanilla will tear you apart on it

 

not everyone is as loud when harassing players as you are, sometimes we don't hear everything.

Really, though. I found myself often missing a lot of harassment unless it was something I was looking out for. When you're busy with investigating reports, going through logs, or even just playing or having a conversation with someone, you kind of drown out a lot of noises (for me at least), and I didn't read every bit of chat unless I later found that it was important to an RDM or harassment claim.

So, what I'm saying is, as a staff member, people would sometimes message me that they were being harassed, whilst I was completely unaware of it previously. I wouldn't just sit around ignoring what was going on, I simply just didn't see it until it was brought up and I could focus my attention on it. I'd like to be able to have the kind of power where I could pay attention to everything going on around me, but unfortunately I'm lacking in that aspect, especially when it comes to something that requires a lot of focus on many different things at the same time already, like staffing.

However, when things were slow, and I was able to focus on the other aspects of the game (like playing, and reading chat, listening to conversations), I would of course message players who I felt were harassing and warn them, or message the player(s) being harassed if they felt that it was harassment, if I was unsure of their relationship with the person talking to them, and I think that's true for most staff members.

I think the best thing to do with a discussion like this is to advocate players to use the admin chat to let staff members know when they're being harassed. Also, I can't remember if this is already there, but in the global warns something along the lines of "If you feel you are being harassed, message a staff member to let them know so they can deal with it" (if it's not there already) would be pretty beneficial for everyone.

I'm sorry that you feel that staff members are not doing their job, if you notice harassment please try to inform a staff member. I understand the argument that the staff should be able to notice harassment before you report it however, sometimes staff may think it's a joke when it's not.

Remember to look out for harassment, if you think that something may be harassment message the user it was targeted to or warn the user harassing.

This was a thread that could and should have been taken seriously. Posting memes and just saying "turn it off" is not the way we as a community should be handling comments like this.
