Dev Want to make a Minecraft map, not sure how. Help?

Ever since I started playing on these servers I've always thought the maps in rotation on vanilla were pretty bland and boring, and thought of my own ideas for maps. I now, finally, want to try putting those ideas into action, but am not entirely sure how.

I've never played Minecraft before, but I have been told that the easiest way to make a minecraft map for Gmod would be to create it in minecraft, and then render it through Gmod. I'm wondering what the best way to do this is, if it's simple enough for me to do with no experience, and if I can do it on a Mac.

From what I remember, there are programs you use. You create a minecraft world and use this program to export a part of the world into Hammer (Gmod/CS map maker thing) Though I do not remember the name of the program.

I think this is something you'd be interested in. To make full use of it, you should be able to know how to use the hammer editor.

 

you can do it on mac and to be honest hammer editor is user friendly so yeah maybe you need a good week to get maps and get used to the program .

 

I used SourceCraft to create my Minecraft map, but you have to do quite a bit of editing to get it to work perfectly, not to mention optimizing.

 

I'd honestly be interested in looking into making a map myself! I haven't made one before, but so long as there are some tutorials or steps I can follow I might give it a try... even if it doesn't turn out that great.

 

I've made a couple of maps for minecraft servers (Super Smash Bros server) so I can help with making the map itself on minecraft
I am a quick learner so with a little help I could easily turn this into a gmod mao

It's funny as this fits the occasion of getting rid of frozen and jondome

 

anyone know if you can use like t traps and stuff with this?

 

That's where I believe hammer editor comes in
If you notice though that all traps are specifically related to minecraft in those maps (TnT for explosions)
So you most likely need to build that in your map

I used to run a zombies survival server with several different maps; some of which could make great TTT maps. I'm not saying you have to use them, but you could take pieces of them and or use them for building ideas. I had some pretty amazing builders work on them, and some turned out excellent. Others... decent.

 

What if someone were to recreate existing non-vanilla maps but with this whole SourceCraft thing?

It would basically be maps that have already been tested but in minecraft form (hopefully)

 

If somebody wants to get together a build team I would gladly convert the maps from Minecraft to Gmod.
