ttt_mc_seriouscraft is a simple Minecraft map for TTT. This is my first time using the Hammer editor in well over a year and I need something "simple" to get me back into it. I am using Source Craft, a Java program that converts parts of a Minecraft world into brushes in Hammer, This creates a base layout for me to add Traitor traps, a Traitor Tester and other TTT like things. Spoiler: Outside Spoiler: Inside House Spoiler: Graveyard Spoiler: Tester Spoiler: 1 of the Nether portals Spoiler: 1/9/2016 Added The Nether Fixed a couple of bugs Spoiler: 1/7/2016 Changed the Nether portals (hopefully) fixed getting stuck in nether portals changed some text around for t traps Spoiler: 1/3/2016 Fixed some texture errors Nerfed T Trap at tester Other various changes(very minor) Spoiler: 12/30/2015 Secret Knife, find the 3 secret chests and activate them to open the portal! 2 Nether portals(currently used to teleport to each other until I have time to create the nether) Completely re-armed the map, all weapon spawns are constant now. Added @Shaddoll's giveaway winner things 2 new Traitor traps, one in the graveyard and one at the tester. Added a door to the T sniping area, may remove if it's too OP Added teleport pictures Other various things (like @Sinz not being able to climb trees) Spoiler: 12/6/2015 Fixed T Tester being buggy Fixed spawns Fixed texture bug in T room Added a T trap to explode the middle Added TNT to the middle Fixed Cacti Fixed Torches Fixed Water Glitch Optimized Map a bit more Original Map Source Craft
I wouldn't mind seeing some sort of door/window in front of the T sniping area. It can be opened and closed with a switch so that any traitors that go up there are not immediately seen. Give the switch a delay so that the traitors cannot just simply open and close it quickly to kill people. It would give the people a chance to shoot the T back. At least, this is what I would do. Also, this kind of makes me tempted to make a minecraft map seeing as how you can build it in minecraft first then port it with a program. What sort of learning/difficulty curve would there be for this? I have been wanted to get into trying my hand at making maps.
The T sniping area is OP as it is, creating a barrier that they can hide behind would make it more OP(At least I think it would) If this map gets accepted into the rotation and enough people like/dislike the ideas I'll change it. If you want to learn to create a Minecraft map you need to learn about optimizing your map a lot, "leaks"(holes in the sealed map to the outside void) are the biggest problem. I think you should start off by creating a simple apartment complex after getting hammer set up, learn how to use the GUI and read/watch lots of tutorials. Sourcecraft just ports the basic structure, you still have to learn how to all about lighting, creating the t tester, etc. Hammer is also a very laggy program, so you have to have a good PC to run it with a minecraft map, even with my gaming PC I get 4 - 5FPS when trying to move the camera(makes it very hard to position it right )
Well, what about a one time use button that simply opens the door? This way, the traitors won't have to worry about being seen right away and they can start sniping from there when they are ready. My main concern with having the T sniping area open like it is, is that you are guaranteed to get at least 1 person watching it like a hawk to see if anyone pops up in there. As soon as someone gets seen up there they will be KOS'd for being in a traitor only area. Having a door/window that can be opened will, for the most part, prevent any auto KOSes before the traitor can do anything. EDIT: Also, having the door there will lower the temptation for people to attempt to prop surf up there and get into any traitor areas.
But after one T opens it, the rest that try to go up there will have no protection. Anyways the teleporter has a name so the T's should know where it leads and how they can get auto KOS'd, you're not forced to go up there. No props on the map currently, impossible
what if the T sniping area isn't a T sniping area, but like an armory? similar (although hopefully less buggy than) mc_jondome. also, I like the idea of no props.
Could be very possible, I would like to do some testing first and then decide what to do with the sniping area, so many different options.
That map sounds brilliant. I wish you the best of luck and hope to see this map completed on a server. One thing I would suggest is to make it a bit more built up, so that everyone isn't in plain sight so the traitor can't just kill everyone from the sniper room. Best of luck, Irishgaming990
From the MC pics, it looks good. However, I'm not a big fan of Minecraft themed maps in GMod. Perhaps you could take the layout in the pictures and make them more HL2-esque?
If a T is up there it's pretty easy to spot him. It's mainly there to give the T's an advantage since the map is so open, Innos can be safe as long as they're not standing in the middle of the map. IDK what the map would look like with HL2 textures, Minecraft is the whole point of this map I like your creative style though. +--Update--+ Finished beta one of the map, now to get optimization testers and/or submit it to Highwon/suggestions (pics in main thread)
I can see a lot of potential in this, well done thus far Sky! I would have to agree with IrishGaming and say that from the images you've given, it looks like most of the map it outside and in the open. This isn't too much of a concern, but if everything's out in the open it could be too difficult for Traitors to get kills. However, if you implement more to that sniper spot; or perhaps a short/long cave system as well under or to the side of the outside, it could be awesome! Just saw that you commented on Irish's posts. If that's what you're going for then that's all fine! Just a suggestion that you may want just a little more areas for people to explore, etc. Nice work and keep it up!
Thanks, I may add a Nether portal(or an end portal) to another part of the map (I'll make sure people don't get stuck when TPing) so the map is bigger (currently having 40+ people on it would be too crowded I feel as it is on maps like clue and terrortrain). The map is small an compact, it's great for the T's to cause chaos. The innos will freak out (Sorry for the RDM reports!), hiding in with groups is a skill T's need to have instead of shoot everything they can see. Inexperienced Traitors(aka baddies) will still have the T room and the sniping area to use to help gain kills without being put in too much danger. There is also some ways for T's to plant C4 and kill lot's of innos near the middle I'm pretty sure this map still has more "walking" room than terrortrain (4 C4s can kill everybody on the train if very well placed) and will be more than enough for the average amount of players alive after 2 minutes on vanilla.
Perhaps making some of the trees thicker (2x2 ish at the bottom) and adding some walls or fences in the outer part of the middle circle to use for cover would help keep the sight lines more fair.
Looks like a really great map so far! As Staples said, some fences, walls or other barriers to limit line of sight and create shooting barriers would be great. Also, it looks like there's an underground area that leads to the tester. Is that going to be expanded at all? Because a tunnel system connecting different parts of the map would be really cool to have, and could potentially have some traitor traps in there as well.
This is the current view from the sniper area And here is the view from the ground I feel as long as you aren't standing in the open too long you should be good, the map has some weird LOS but if you are really scared about getting sniped just sit in the house. The tunnel system is the T tester right now, under the T tester is a traitor room, the exit for the cave system is one way, meaning only one way in. A cave system would be very cool to have but the brush limit of 8192 maybe be a problem(since caves are so jagged), For the current map I am using 5640 brushes, adding a decently big cave system would bring this closer to the limit :/ I hopefully plan to add the nether/end though.
I see that there are some shrubs around the middle already, would it be possible to raise some of those up a layer? I worry that a few innos could watch the entire map at this point.
Yep, I can increase the height of them, BTW for now the map is posted on Steam Workshop if you would like to test it out yourself.
