I remember being a member in gaming communities much larger than SeriousTTT (I usually don't stay for long in those). Then, I begun to wonder what STTT would be like if the playerbase was 10x larger to the extent where new servers are set up to hold the immense playerbase. I'd like to hear others opinions about a larger community. Is it a good thing? Should we work to increase the playerbase?
Well on a average after noon there is around 110 players on. There is only so many mods. Plus trolish players. And Hackers.
If we grow exponentially into one of those types of servers, a lot more staff members would be needed. That's for sure.
Personally TTT does nothing for me anymore and would love to see Serious expand into other GMOD modes, specifically DeathRun and GunGame, and other games like DayZ Epoch and TF2 to name a couple, hell even a community CS:GO server would be fun.
If we expand our playerbase, I think we should also expand to other games, like, CS:GO and TF2. I would personally love to see an RP server but that's just me.
Serious does have the potential to be a multi-game community. It really all depends on what Highwons goals and plans are.
If I remember correctly, Highwon chose the name "SeriousTTT" because he wanted to stay centric to the game mode TTT. What makes us a great server is our customizations you won't find anywhere else, what makes us a great community is our staff requirements and structure, along with a high quality forum (not enjin!). If we were to start covering multiple gamemodes and/or games, we would need to change our name - something like SeriousGaming or SeriousGames (could even snag one of those new top level domains, serious.social). We would also need to expand our staff base to support another gamemode, which is work in and of itself. Do we decide that staff have privileges across all gamemodes or just one (for example)? Also, a new gamemode would mean we need new customizations to that gamemode for it to be worth other user's while. Highwon is already in over his head with the TTT gamemode, and if he were to focus somewhere else the quality of our TTT servers may deteriorate. Or when there are gmod updates and they effect all the gamemodes he would have to focus on fixing all of them, not just one. All in all, it's a headache on the logistics end, with no real benefits for Highwon, as it is our community is running him at a deficit, throwing more maintenance would bring costs up.
What if we find a willing co-owner? or Highwon finds one? Just thoughts don't rape my reply pls. I mean, we need another rank to take over the magenta rank After all, is Highwon, we need someone to be
It's all about finding someone he can trust that has the technical skill necessary to co-own and run half the operation (half as in, the other gamemode or game). I don't think he has anyone like that right now, and I don't think he's looking. Not saying it'll happen, but most of us here joined for TTT.
Well Red I am against the name "SHub" for obvious reasons. If you need to ask what those reasons are then i'm a little worried. However, I am all for the idea of this. If we could get someone who has money and time to help Highwon out and he sees this as a good idea, I'm all for it. Being an admin on DarkRP and Prophunt is as fun as on TTT. It'd be cool to be part of many other gamemodes and games that are all part of a bigger group. Is it a good concept? I believe so personally. Will this be put into the works? Probably not. :/
In a way, it has already. When you look at TS, you can see channels made for other games so members of this community can play together and threads in the 'Gaming' section of players asking if other members are interested in playing games outside of Gmod with. So obviously there's already a demand of some degree for this community to expand but sadly as mentioned by others like Zikeji There's a lot of variables to cover before Highwon can even think of expanding into another gamemode/game. So this won't happen anytime soon.
