Yeah. I think @Smash was the one I spoke with about it, his brother owned a Celica and he knew one other person with a Celica, all of them had the same vanishing oil issue.
Yeah, my friend had one for a short while, he ended up selling it and getting a new car instead of bothering with it. But Toyotas in general are good cars. Like everyone else said, if you and your family can afford it go for it. I know I would, cars(atleast for me.) Aren't just about transportation, like Muffin said, they're also about enjoyment.
Another reccomendation is to get a cheaper car for example a Ford fiesta and a cheap motorcycle cbr300r for example, I find bikes much much more fun than cars, but with that options you have to weigh the risk vs reward.
I have always thought about going down to the DMV and getting a motorcycle endorsement, but I figured my mom would forever be worried sick and scared like none other if she knew I was out riding a bike. We'll save that for when I move out ;P
I made the deal that I would always wear Gear and take the msf class but my mom didnt mind motorcycles that much. And so far I have only ride twice without a helmet/proper Gear and both times the wind/bugs/rocks were annoying and I didnt need much more than taking a Rock to my helmet and it taking out a nice chip to make me continue to wear a helmet.
I personally would never own a bike because I know I would very likely kill myself with one. I'm a leadfoot and crave adrenaline, so I much prefer being in my relatively safe giant metal cage known as a car.
