Cave Story over at http://www.cavestory.org/ is one of my absolute FAVORITE free games, there is an updated, semi-HD version available on steam but the original will always be free over on their site. It's an indie metroidvania style game with a focus on story, and it's freaking amazing. Seriously, go play this right now. Why are you still reading this? There is no more content to this post here, cave story is back there and you should go get it.
