Why you should be unbanned:

I did exactly what the mod told me to do. I came onto the server with the name "the detective" and then i get kicked by bSun Sora with the reason "change your name" or something like that. So I change my name to "the traitor" and join the server again. Right when I get in i get banned for 8 hours for "not changing name." "the detective" =/= "the traitor" and he didn't even ask me to change it.​

Although it looks like he warned you about changing your name in order to not cause confusion in the game, yet you came back into the game with an equally confusing name.

 

I don't know. IMHO, it's not equally confusing. It certainly wouldn't cause any RDMs because nobody else is named a traitor at the beginning unlike detectives.

Protocol was taken by @bSun Sora when you clearly were trying to mess with his ruling and trying to "trick the system." Well, that didn't work out. When you're asked to change your name, there is a reason. We don't just tell you to change your name because we don't like the name "Jim" or "Timmy." It's because your name causes clear confusion and that you were trying to call people out on accident and eventually cause RDM.

Your punishment was well deserved, but I'll leave it up to @bSun Sora to make the call. I would deny this appeal, personally. Maybe you will learn to not try to mess with staff and go around rules.

The reason your name causes confusion is if someone tries to kos you, it would sound like "ITS THE DETECTIVE" or "KOS THE DETECTIVE" which is confusing. Are we KOSing an actual detective or kosing you? It's even worse for the name you came back with. You wont get out of a name change ban simply for changing your name to an equally confusing/trolling name.

 

I see. I guess I'm just having trouble seeing how "the traitor" is equally confusing. There's nobody publicly tagged as a traitor, so when someone says "the traitor is a Traitor!", no actual traitors aren't KOSed--nobody is KOSed except me.

Edit: Also, would "the innocent" and "the guy behind me" also not be viable names?

 

Use your logic. If you have to ask if it's appropriate, it probably isn't.

Of course those two names would also be a problem.

 

Not everyone uses the auto callouts. A lot of players KOS by voice.

Originally, you came on the servers as "the detective" so I gave you two rounds after warning you to change it. You didn't, so I kicked you. Then you came back as "the traitor" so I banned you.

 

So...is there any standard in determining whether a name is appropriate or not?

 

If the name causes confusion, or is offending to any race, culture, or person, then you shouldn't have the name. Just pick a proper name.
