Taking a computer science class this semester.

I don't know if the server needs a software developer, but when I become proficient I could offer some service. Would that be acceptable at a later date?

Is this a college computer science class? Are you a computer science major? Because if this is Intro to Computer Science or A.P. Computer Science, I can assure you that you won't learn the basic knowledge of coding for GarrysMod servers unless you search for that on your own.

Source: I took A.P. Computer Science 11th grade. I got 95s on each test. I got a 2 on the AP (not good). And I don't remember a single thing besides how to start a code or how to print "Hello world!" Granted, I chilled and played Smash Bros on emulator for most of the days. But it was still not useful, haha.

As a fellow CS major, welcome! You'll enjoy the class but you'll be quite new that you'll be overwhelmed with material. Be prepared to lean encapsulation, pointers, dynamic arrays, and vectors.

Also importantly, pay attention to your math classes. You'll be surprised at how much it turns up in programming. Once you get past data structures/algorithms you'll be well on your way to software engineering.

So long story short, read and study. You'll do fine!

 

Yes, it's a college level course. I've skimmed the book and I will be learning everything from circuitry to coding C, along with the fundamentals of how hardware and software interact with each other. I'm not sure how far I will go into LUA or the kind of scripting games like G-Mod use.

in fact I just finished my final version of an addon we use to rearm maps. I made it to allow us to spawn custom weapons.
Lua is very easy once you get used to it

 

Lua is a very versatile scripting language. It depends on what you're trying to achieve. I personally like higher level languages.

Fellow CS Major here. Literally just moved into my dorm and I begin classes on Wednesday. I took CS AP in high school and I'm sure that'll help at least a little bit with the concept portion of the course. @Cee I will probably take your offer later in the year and ask for some tutoring.

All these people with schools that aren't poor. I want to take something even close to these classes but the only thing my school offers is graphic arts -_-
